Lisa Marie Says No To Ballet

August 20, 2009 | Book

Peter Schauss Ballet's production on the life of the King has been forced to cancel by Lisa-Marie Presley over the way it portrays the music icon. Presley's addictions and messy divorce were featured in the production. The production has already been performed in Scandinavia.

I think it's sad the people are so afraid of what will come out about celebrities that they don't want others to use them. I, for one, would have loved to have seen how a choreographer sees Presley's music as the backdrop for ballet.

Lots of celebrities seem to be turning up in ballet now, like Marie Antoinette. Let's see if anyone else takes on the king.

Elvis does not belong to ballet. I think it's a bad idea personally, no offense to those who like the idea.

I see nothing wrong with Lisa's decision.

Couldn't have been any worse than the 1000s of tacky impersonators....

Cirque is devoting 2 years to Elvis with a specially designed/built theater in which to showcase the music & artists. A top rated production by a top rated cast. You can't get much more of a classy tribute than that.

I have to go along with Lisa Marie on this--but based on not having seen it myself. I am all for the ballet, but I don't think we need Elvis' addictions or divorce portrayed through dance. I prefer to think of the highs as--hitting it big in 56, the comeback in 60 and 68 and maybe the 1973 aloha show, and the lows as the draft into the army, his mother's death, the movie years and then the eventual decline after 1973. There's plenty of drama in that, without having to really focus on divorce or drugs.

Good for Lisa Marie and coming from me, that's a big kudo. Elvis does not belong in ballet and having his struggle with divorce and drugs portrayed in any venue has been way overdone already. Forget it, that's not what Elvis was really about.

What has EPE/GRACELAND got to try and hide now in 2009?-nothing!;everybody knows about elvis' drug use and divorce(countless of books, films, documenries have shown Elvis' "darker side" to point that nothing shocks us anymore)...i agree that elvis was very unique and thier is always a different angle, but why Lisa Marie has cancelled this truthfull and honest show i do not know??-As elvis said in 1972 "the IMAGE is one thing-the human being is another,it's very hard to live up to an image"..that is i believe is what it is all about-Elvis ' image!!!(thier 'still' to afraid to let the joe public know of his "human side",..his medications, divorce, etc, etc:That is why we never get an 'official' dvd release of "Elvis In Concert"(1977)..well,not for at-least another 30 years!!

I agree with Helbrown . A few days ago , FOX News had a fat jumpsuited Elvis impersonator on the street in front of thier broadcast station . They all had a good laugh. If only Lisa could stop things like that ! ... oh well

It might have been a good idea, maybe not. As far as impersonators, there are some good ones out there--not the fat cheesy ones.

It would have been different, bringing Elvis to a wider audience,if he's not already there !
