Lisa Marie Presley Wins UK Lawsuit

May 04, 2008 | People
Britain's Daily Mail newspaper has been forced to apologize to Lisa Marie Presley – who is pregnant – over claims she was pursuing a poor diet like her late father, Elvis. Last month the newspaper published a photo of Presley, dressed down and without makeup, eating with friends in Los Angeles, and the accompanying article said she was "growing just like her dad."

Presley's lawyers sued for libel, and on Friday May 2nd, 2008 the newspaper printed an apology:

"On March 4 we published a photograph of Lisa Marie Presley while she was dining with friends. We suggested she might have an unhealthy appetite similar to her late father. We now accept that the suggestion is untrue and apologize to Ms. Presley for any distress caused."

In fact, Presley, 40, felt forced to reveal her pregnancy secret two days after the article appeared. "I have had to show my cards and announce under the gun and under vicious personal attack that I am in fact pregnant," she wrote on her MySpace Celebrity blog.

"My client is deeply upset and offended by this article, especially as it was widely published just as she and her family were meant to be celebrating her happy news," her legal rep, Simon Smith, said at the time. On her MySpace blog Lisa Marie writes: The Daily Mail in London jumped the gun in the middle of discussing our settlement agreements and posted this in their paper this past Friday. It could have easily gone unnoticed, but I am sure they would never have wanted that to be the case. (insert smile of sarcasm and eye brow goes up here). It never ceases to amaze me how hard it is to get an apology and when you finally do it is NEVER in the same context or magnitude as the original slanderous story. Regardless, I accept their attempt at redemption. Also, anything else that comes from this will go directly into the Presley Charitable Foundation which will go towards building the New Presley Place in New Orleans. No, I'm not quite done yet. I get immense pleasure out of making something good come from something bad. :) For those who have been asking recently, The duet of" In the Ghetto " was only up on ITUNES for about a month and a half last August / September and it made approximately 150 thousand dollars for the project. A great start but still only a start. I have many ideas about fund raisers for this in the future. In the meantime, I miss you as much as you miss me, I miss being on the road! I'm feeling unusually well and happy being pregnant thank you. (For those who have asked). I am still writing the 3rd record yes. (For those who have wondered about that:) Writing with many different people. That's about it for now. I hope you are well and doing alright yourselves. I Always love hearing from you, here or wherever you comment or write to me. ~LMP

I do hope she gives the Award to Charity, as her father would have done.

I feel for Lisa. And I fail to understand why she seems to be unable to simply ignore the press and everything they say or do. It appears to me she lets these people get under her skin ... and thus ... they win every time ! She might need better management ...

I am very happy that she has won the law suit. Not because of her as such. This way of reporting is not objective and untrue. There should be a extremely high fine on this journalism, because so many people in this world are hurt by this type of socalled press freedom.

When will she apologise to the world for marrying Michael Jackson?
benny scott wrote on May 06, 2008
Why should she apologise ? Her marriage with MJ is part of her private life, and her private life is nobody's business. Elvis sure knew the " The Coasters" in the fifties. They had a world-wide hit with the song " Charlie Brown". A part part of the lyricks goes like this " Why is everybody always picking on me ?" That's what happens now with Lisa. She doesn't deserve all these critics .

Good for Lisa! The media is really out of line. Many celebrities have sued & demanded apologies so why shouldn't she? It's the only way this type of personal pursuit will stop. It's easy to think that she should just let this type of media attack go unnoticed but put yourself in her place. It's easy to say that when you can go about your business everyday & no one notices you. People in her position can't even go to the drugstore in peace! As for that ridiculous comment about "when is she going to apologize to the world for marrying Michael Jackson" what in the world does that have to do with anything? Was the world hurt by it? Was poor Harvey hurt by it? Has he never done anything in his life so far that he wishes he hadnt? If so, did the media splash it across the headlines? For pete's sake, move on. How can that even be an issue anymore! Maybe he's still expecting Elvis to show up at a donut shop.

The fact that she married Michael Jackson shows exactly what kind of person she is. Think about it, will ya?

So I have to sue my parents, do I? It's my name and I'm proud of it. At least I don't hide behind a ridiculous pseudonym. Bet you ain't ever had a jump in your life.

She used to be hot. Maybe she should apologize for that more than anything else. Lisa, get it together babe!

Well, it had to happen. It seems that no one can give an opinion on this cite without the "others" taking offense & making the proverbial "mountain out of a molehill" issue. What does a person's name or if a person has ever been "jumped" (how juvenile) have to do with it! As far as if Lisa is or was ever a "babe", that's strictly a matter of opinion. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I swear some of these people must be related to Lamar Fike!

I agree with you Ruthie Puthie Duthie. The level of intelligence here is pretty poor, isn't it. All the name calling and everything is terrible. I wish we could just all agree that everything Elvis is wonderful. He is wonderful, his daughter is wonderful, his ex-wife is wonderful, all his fans are wonderful and everything's rosie in the garden. But Lamar Fike is full of tripe.

I gotta put in a good word for ELVIS NEWS, the people who run this site must be sitting back laughing at the way we go at each other, I don't think any other site would put up with it, but i also think that they know that we would fight to the end in defence of ELVIS. I enjoy it because it keeps this lonely old guy in good moods. hard to do after all the funerals I just went through. keep it up good people, life is short.
