Lauderdale Courts

June 08, 2004 | Other
The renovation of Lauderdale Courts, now called Uptown Square, is almost finished. Last Saturday's Memphis Commercial Appeal had an article about the renovated apartments.

Mike Freeman has been inside Elvis apartment. The workers are painting the walls right now. All the heavy construction work is done. What is left is installing the appliances and furnishing the rooms. The interior decorator hired to do the job consulted with Cindy Hazen about the proper items to furnish the rooms.

Elvis' apartment will not look exactly as it did when he lived there, the fixtures and applainces will be new according to the interior decorator. Most important is that the building survives and will be safe to visit. It will be a hotel suite, reservations will be made through the Peabody Hotel. The Courts should be opened officially very soon.

I just came back from my vacation in Memphis. Thanks to Mike Freeeman my group of 9 german Elvis-Fans had the chance to go into the apartment while the painters where still working in it on Sunday the 2nd of June 2004. - I tell you, wow, that was kind of a superb feeling to stand in there. We were very thankful to see that the house was not torn down and that the memory of Elvis is kept alive withing these walls. from there on Elvis made it to fame. everyone who sees this apartment and remembers how poor the Presleys were where when they moved to Memphis. can continue to dream...the famous American Dream !! Thanks to Mike and Cindy Freeman, they helped to provide the house from beeing torn down. Their work and sincere contribution to Elvis is outstanding !
