Jeweler To The King To Retire

December 19, 2005 | People
After 68 years, Lowell Hays Jewelers is going out of business. When all the merchandise is sold, the lights at 454 South Perkins Ext. are turned off and the doors are locked, the city will be losing a long-standing institution that has touched the lives of generations of Mid-South residents.

Over the years, this family business has helped create countless special moments and the keepsakes to remember them by. It is a business that has gained international notoriety as the official jeweler of Elvis Presley. Lowell Hays Jr. still sells replicas of the TCB (Taking Care of Business) ring, and TCB and TLC (Tender Loving Care) necklaces he designed for the King of Rock 'n' Roll 34 years ago. But after 44 years of running the family business, and with no one to follow in his footsteps, Hays says he and his wife, Linda, are ready for some much-needed relaxation time.
