Jay-Z To Surpass Elvis?

September 13, 2009 | People

Jay-Z, arguably the biggest name is hip-hop, will release his much-anticipated “Blueprint 3,” this week and it’s expected to be the No. 1 album in the country next week. Rapper Jay-Z will take Elvis Presley as the artist who has achieved the most number one albums in the US billboard charts. He is on track to score his 11th chart-topping album with" Blueprint 3", only The Beatles have more with 19 albums reaching number one.

On You Tube you can already see several cooperations between Elvis Presley and Jay-Z as remixed by Cookin' Soul who put Jay-Z and Elvis together when Jay-Z scored his 10th US #1 album.

Well he can have whatever record he wants. After all, he's only "arguably" the biggest name in his chosen field of music. But in Elvis' chosen field, even thirty years after his death there is no debate about who is still the King. :)

All I can say and be within your guidelines is; BULL! Elvis is the GREATEST! Colonel Parker probably gave away more records than this joker will ever sell.Over half of the kids buying jayz's stuff have probably all ready burned their brains out with dope.

We all know who the King is so JZ doesn't feature on my radar...I don't care what kind of records of Elvis's are broken..he will ALWAYS be number one

Sorry but I have no idea who that guy is ! Maybe it's cause I am french & France is a very remote country ; yet we do know Elvis & an oficial stamp will be released in his honour early october . 30 years from Know , Elvis will still be around one way or the other and the other guy will still be unknow overhere despite his record breaking in the States . Just like G. Brooks. TCB.

Well said jack409 ! Have you noticed that ,every now and then , we get such or such "singer" compared to ELVIS (ie : J whatever is name is , G.Brooks , Jacko , M.Carey to name but a few...) ; well , to me , and whatever ther other pretendants have achieved , it simply means that the KING is ,& will remain ,the Ultimate Reference .I also agree that the music jounalists of today should make some correct historical investigations before making comparisons .

Why be so childish. The Kings the # 1 guy from another era. Let the new generation have their # 1, just like we did. All records are broken someday. Nothing lasts forever. Be big about it. Just keep Elvis in your hearts. Don't begrudge someone who may come along & surpass him. I wouldn't know Jay-Z if I tripped over him. But I'll give the devil his due.

Who cares? Jay-Z means nothing to me and Im sure nothing to most on this site. As scudder said, all records eventually will be broken just like in sports and anything else. The Beatles record will fall also. Nothing lasts forever except the music. Thats all that counts.

don't care Jay-Z as well, and we know very well some of Elvis's records will never be broken and we all know what records i'm talking about and what jack409 is saying is not childish in any way, it's the truth by all means

I don't know how, Jay-Z, even sells one CD ! I reallly don't see him, as having any major talent, whatsoever, and mind you, I am very open minded to all types of music. Why is he is so popular? Is it all hype ? Take one look at his performance at the 2009 MTV video Music awards show. He did a duet with Alicia Keys, and she, carried the song.. and made is semi enjoyable. His rapping was off key and off beat ! When I hear of a guy, like Jay-Z, with very little talent, passing Elvis in Number ones, it disappoints me.

Sour grapes. Someday all of Elvis records will be broken. Elvis is not God so like all others his records will be broken. Deal with it, as it inevetable.

After listen1ng to JAYz just now on U TUBE; I'll have to say I enjoyed a 8-track tape a buddy brought to work one day which had a dozen people BREAKING WIND to the tune of Rudolph, the red nose reindeer much BETTER!!! Like I say ; the people who like that music are BRAIN DEAD.

well oldscudder your comment was one to be expected as usual, ever been to the trophy room Elvis has the most platina/Gold/Multi Platinum records then any other performer or Group ( just read that on elvis.com), i think if that record ever will be broken( if it will be broken) we won't live to tell,.... that record will not be broken for decades to come, i didn't say elvis is god. he was and is a gift from god.

Its all silly stuff. Jay-Z is a no talent rap artist. All rap is crap in my opinion But if he has the solo record and eventually passes The Beatles record, so what? There is nothing we can do about it. Nothing. To argue & say go to the trophy room and look at all the gold records, etc sounds like children arguing. If you say this to a young person (especially one who likes this crap rap) they will look at you like you are nuts and could care less about it. Get on with your lives.
Natha wrote on September 15, 2009
Question: if the above record will be a number 1, than it is also an Elvis #1 isn't it?! Otherwise he should not use Elvis' voice. With the expanding number of humans the number of young ones increase, so the selling numbers cannot be compared. ALso the download price cannot be compared with the old prices and hence easy just to do it.

Jack - 30 number ones was correct as Burning Love failed to hit the top spot! My children love this type of music - i cant understand why. It's a generation thing. Cast your mind back to '56. Bing Crosby and Sinatra fans were saying the same stuff about Elvis. Jay Z has a fan base - he hits the top spot - breaks Elvis' record - so what? As for suggesting some of his releases were collaborations - don't go there. I believe that most of Elvis 50's and 60's singles had a 'with the Jordainaires' type credit. It's all rather petty to be honest.

The only reason Jay-Z is famous is because he married Beyonce. If he wasn't with her, the music industry wouldn't have given him a second look. He is a second rate rapper in a second rate music world. The industry has changed so much since Elvis was here, its all about downloads and who you know and stuff like that....its not about good music anymore.
Jesse Garon Presley wrote on September 15, 2009
well steve v some of the thing you r saying is true that's for sure... i don't like rap either ,but first of all i'm not a child arguing i was just trying to make a point about something, and i never said go to the trophy room if you r an elvis fan then we know whats on the wall over there, and for the rest i don't even care what Jay-Z is doing i don't even know his music ( gladly)... and Jay-Z surpassing Elvis? not in my life..end of story for me

Who is JAY Z? Male or female? I still haven't heard his/her name.
Jerome-the-third wrote on September 15, 2009
Juddy_Fairytale, Jay Z is not famous because he married Beyonce. Before that he was already one of the greatest selling rapper/rpoducer. So you must say he has got skills in the thing he does (whether you like the music or not- I don't actually). Maybe records are broken because of the fact that the music industry has changed. Artists and their music can find much more exposure in many different types of media..

wot utter rubbish!-Elvis has officailly sold the most in the entire world!-read the gunnness book of records!!(he not only has the most UK&US number one singles, but the most hits in the TOP 20 and TOP TEN aswell as the reord for loads of different albums in the top ten)
Natha wrote on September 16, 2009
John4126 isn't there a difference between a background group and taking an official record and just adding your own thing to it? At least I think the Little Less Conversation guy was honest about it. But hey, who cares. Let's just appreciate this news site as it is.

Elvis holds the record for being Elvis longer than anyone else. In fact no one else has even been a contender. All these silly records do not matter. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. Who knows or cares about all the others who came after and maybe designed a smaller one, or an energy efficient one, or a red one, a blue one, the 3-way version? Who the hell is gonna remember this guy in 5 years? 10? 30 years after his death?
