James Burton Not Happy

January 30, 2004 | Music
James Burton does not approve of the release of Big Boy Frankie's single "A Little Bit of Heaven". They never got permission to use his name. James is very upset about this. James said he is not promoting a CD that is not his. He certainly does not approve of them releasing it as HIS instrumental CD. ElvisNews: we removed several reactions from member 8735 and banned him for misbehaving. Also reactions from others on him were removed because without the other posts the treat wasn't logical anymore.

Burton also played for John Denver in the 80's and early 90's. He is a legendary rock and roll and country guitarist, as if that even needs to be said.

People like 8735 should not be allowed to contribute to this website. His comments are ignorant and disgraceful.

8735: James was one of Elvis' favourite guitar players. Maybe that means something to you...

8735 You ask for more respect for Elvis. If there is one site on this planet who respect Elvis it is this site. And if YOU have any idea what respect means then you also have to respect the one's who helped create the fantastic sound of Elvis..That includes a lot of people...or is your heart not big enough for more then one person to respect. If you want to be updated on Elvis News it's quite normal to inform us about the people who worked with him..MOST people RESPECT that..please do to!

Hi, this is an amazeing thread... Now, what’s the real story behind this? In October of last year, the Belgian singer Big Boy Frankie (who'll be appearing at the Sport Palace in Antwerp early this month) had asked James to play overdub on his next single. James, who happened to be in Belgium, agreed and indeed, in November of 2003 he did a wonderful overdub. I was present at that session, and so was Yvonne Groenendijk, who runs James's website. In December of last year, I got a call from the management of Big Boy Frankie. They had released the single on a 2 track-CD. Track one was a vocal track, the second was instrumental, credited to James Burton. Also, his name and picture are on both the label and the card board sleeve. Little did we know that James was not asked for permission. In fact, when we saw the CD, we mailed the label (Blackline) and the singer, and twice we got the same reply: Yes, James Burton agrees to this release. Therefore, we were under the impression that this was a release with the full consent of James Burton. That changed when we presented James a copy of the CD in January. As we only then found out, James had never given permission to the Blackline label to use his name or picture, and he was NOT happy with the release of an instrumental track. We regret that a Belgian label has 'tricked' James into this. This release, of course, has nothing to do with any elvis fanclub. Ours offered the CD for sale to the fans in good trust. Although this is not an illegal product, we will withdraw it from our online shop. The single, however, is still available in the Belgian CD stores... We'll be posting a reaction from the Blackline label on our website as this story develops.

Folks, let's be a little nicer to 8735. He's clearly some pitiful mental deficient who, sadly, has no one to watch over him to make sure he doesn't play with his mommy's computer. Let's be a little kinder to those less fortunate than ourselves. A little compassion, please.

8735, That's not really true what you say here...James is not 'just' Elvis' sideman...He has a remarkable career as a guitarplayer with lots of great artists...Ricky Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Roy Orbison etc. He had a career before Elvis and after him. He's is member of the rock hall of fame, not for nothing if you know what i mean...he has a special sound, he plays melodies in stead of that awfull crying sound.

I agree with Adam. What are you (8735) talking about ? It´s really one of the most ridiculous reactions I have read.

No cd after 30 years waiting since "The Guitar Sounds Of James Burton" You're right gribz let's boycott this cd. It's a bloody shame of the producers to release it as an instrumental of James Burton. After all I never heard of Big Boy Frankie?? Is he famous in a kind of way?

well, if James Burton is not happy, and never gave his permission for the release of this Single, it is up to us, the fans to get the word out. Let's inform all Elvis fans to boycott the purchase of this CD.
