It's Not Over...

With sales approaching 800,000 physical copies sold already in the UK there is no doubt that this will be a million selling global release for Elvis Presley. Although topping the USA classical charts with “If I Can Dream” Sony will be looking for a greater success Stateside of Elvis in the Billboard album Chart.

Producer Don Reedman has told the OEPFC “Next year it is hoped to stage the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra live with Elvis on the big screen in a one off concert in the UK, and plans are under way for an Elvis Gospel album with the RPO for August 2017.”

moseleyman: yes we are being greedy :-)). Let us just sit back and enjoy what has occured to us Elvisfans in 2015. The sales figures of IICD were (are!) massive: number 4 in the album list over 2015 in the U.K.. Elvis scoring another number 1 in 2015, and in 2016 IICD will become a million seller. So we have really nothing to complain about. I personally doubt that the follow up will focus only on the gopel side of Elvis (despite what Don Reedman has said). That genre will appeal to only a small market of the music buyers whereas SONY will equal the success of IICD. In the coming weeks Sony and the RPO will discuss the setlist of the album. Bear in mind that sony is the company which has to invest money, so their marketing department will have their say and come forward with suggestions. ( I wonder if Ernst and/or Roger are being consulted)? 2016 will be bring us the movie Elvis & Nixon... I have just seen the trailer on youtube and it is ( do I say this politely..) rather weird! It is in a way 'funny', but the guy who is portraying Elvis does not look like 'Elvis' at all!!! For now it is interesting whether it will be shown in the cinemas or that it will be a DVD-release only... To be continued.

Personally I think 2017 too long for a follow up are we greedy asking for VOLUME 2 this year ? But I suppose today's artist only make a album every 2 to 3 years or more in some cases oh have times have changed when RCA were demanding 2 albums and 3 singles every year off Elvis when he was alive. As for the follow up being strictly a Gospel album although I luv listening to Elvis gospel I think it may be a mistake as it will appeal to a smaller market ? Unless of course ELVIS can do another miracle and get a Gospel album to the top of the charts in 2016/2017 hope so If not a double album 1 cd full of tracks picked by fans to be done with the RPO 2nd Cd gospel with the RPO and also some top Gospel groups ? Any thoughts?

joemin: Ernst Jorgensen told that the IICD album has passed the million mark. But that is the figure for the worldwide sale (not England: but that is just "A matter of time" :-). Furthermore the elvis site in Australia has a complete listing of the worldwide chart placings. Apart from the U.K. and Australia/New Zealand the album did not do well in the rest of the world. In Europe only in Austria and Belgium it reached a place in the top ten. I expect that the follow up in 2017 will have more promotion in the rest of the world. I personally think that Sony was also surprised by the success of IICD. In England they targeted a sale of 500,000 copies..., but they will pass the million mark there in just a few weeks time. It is a crazy world we are living in...:-)

"If I Can Dream" has dropped out of the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S. However it is #2 on the Classical Albums chart behind only "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". "Elv1s 30 #1 Hits" is #177 on the Billboard 200 chart.

I also read somewhere that IICD was at #1 for sales in actual retail outlets (record stores) in the uk. That is excellent news because it will encourage retail outlets to stock Elvis product. That will help keep Elvis in the minds of the music buying public.
I assume sales will taper off after this week, but it should reach the million mark before too long.
Any idea how things have gone across Europe, was it released in every country??

Today the Official Top 40 biggest artist albums of 2015 were revealed and Elvis is in at Number 4 on the end of year chart with the second biggest album released in 2015. (Numbers 2 and 3 in the list had their albums already released in 2014...). After nine weeks the album has yet to leave the Top 3 of the Official Albums Chart. The last Elvis albums which achieved this status were Pot Luck and Girls Girls Girls! The combined sales of the posthumous LP by the end of 2015 stood at 881,000. Here is the list: 1) Adele: 2.496 million copies, 2) Ed Sheeran: 971,000 copies. 3) Sam Smith: 893,000 copies. 4) Elvis Presley: 881,000 copies (...and still counting!). The latest news is that Elvis Presley is closing the gap on Adele’s 25 album. Adele looks set to extend her lead on the Official Albums Chart for a seventh week, but it’ll be the closest race since 25’s release as Elvis Presley closes the gap with his If I Can Dream album. Just 4,000 combined sales separate the two on today’s Update, as Presley’s orchestral album continues to narrow the gap, which stood at 6,000 on last Friday’s Official Albums Chart. Happy birthday Elvis!

Maybe time to get behind this release. Some great versions on it. We don't need poorly recorded concerts and backing / promoting bootlegs above this isn't really helping the cause.

These sales figures are becoming surreal. I am afraid that this was the last week at the no.2 spot and that it will fail to climb to the no.1 spot again. But wouldn't it be wonderful if IICD could top the album charts again on January 8th! If Elvis could knock the unbeatable Adele off of the top spot on his 86th birthday! There is a very exciting week ahead of us...
marty (profilecontact) wrote on Jan 1, 2016report abuse
Elvis is still no. 2 in the UK charts released today with 71000 sales for the week but only 6000 behind Adele, can he take top spot next week? He has now sold 880000 in the UK alone and this is really impressive. The album will surely become a million seller in the next few weeks. He also has 9 albums in the top 100 in the official albums streaming chart top 100!

To follow on also this black and white buffalo footage was filmed from audience perspective and gives a unique view of Elvis
If they can release the Madison 8mm footage they can release this at least there is only a few mins missing of this footage and not great big gaps as in Madison although I was very pleased to get that we want anything that we Havnt seen b4
moseleyman (profilecontact) wrote on Jan 1, 2016report abuse
Yes The Memphis Fan know it's a long shot with this footage but thought if we cud get them interested in this then maybe we will get a outake Elvis in Tour Blue Ray's ? We can only keep trying agree with u in the black and white fifties footage but what about the colour pied piper if Cleveland footage of Elvis shot provisionally in 1955 that's got to be worth investigating as is all of Elvis film output
We need a dedicated company to release all film outakes like Ftd Did with the audio someone needs to spend time in the vaults and preparing contracts with studios to get this stuff all released before it's too late so cmon lets get together and see what we can do can you help Todd? It's got to be done soon b4 all us fans who can remember what's there or shud be there in the vault are not here anymore
joemin (profilecontact) wrote on Jan 1, 2016report abuse
2016 could be a good year. Just checked and IICD is still at #1. Any news on how the mid week charts look this week?
Todd Slaughter deserves great credit for this.

moseleyman, there's no way EPE is going to be interested in purchasing the footage filmed in Buffalo '72. After several decades Warner Brothers hasn't bothered to do anything with all the available color outtake-footage of "Elvis On Tour", so why would they (or EPE) suddenly be interested in this obscure black-and-white pre-footage?? Contacting Graceland about this matter would be a total waste of effort and time. Sorry, but that's my honest (and realistic) opinion on the matter. Much, much more important for Elvis Presley's legacy would be for his 1956 Stage Show appearances, and his Milton Berle Show appearances to finally be issued to the public on DVD. That's what EPE (Graceland) should really be interested in.
moseleyman (profilecontact) wrote on Dec 31, 2015report abuse
Yes I agree I think there should be a follow up to this great album but not a gospel one perhaps a double Cd. To please everyone putting the gospel sides one one Cd. Just to change the subject why hasn't anyone mentioned the film being auctioned at Graceland of the buffalo 72 show shot by director Robert Abel in prep for Elvis on tour. Nearly a complete show Although in black and white the footage looks stunning take a look at the clip on the auction site so everyone please get behind And contact Graceland get them to purchase the footage and release for the fans on blu ray it's too good to be locked away. Great as it's filmed from the audience you really get a feel of being there

It is unbelievable to me that Sony does not now see how wrong they were to not market the IICD release in a big way here in the US. And they still have a chance....Elvis' birthday celebration would be a perfect opportunity for multi media advertising. Having listened to the release several times, I appreciate it more each time I hear it. Thank you goes to Priscilla, EPE and Sony for doing it as I think it is clearly the best overdub release yet, blowing away VIva Elvis.

I can only add my support to those who like this album. I was skeptic, but was actually taken when Burning Love tuned out. I've played this daily since I received it. And it is really amazing to see how well it has been received in the UK! Elvis is still alive!
English Kev (profilecontact) wrote on Dec 29, 2015report abuse
I find it incredible that an artists who has been dead for 38 years is still able to outsell every non-English artist in the UK. The sales are great, the album is great, I don't understand what's not to love as an Elvis fan. The songs aren't better than the originals just different but in a good tasteful way.
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Dec 28, 2015report abuse
Brian Quinn, has "If I Can Dream" sold 100,000 units in the U.S.A. yet? I hope SONY now realizes what a mistake they made by not marketing it better than they did. Obviously the U.S. Postal Service connection wasn't nearly enough. Nothing beats a television commercial to bring attention to a product. I suppose there's a possibility that the CD could get some attention on the QVC-TV shopping channel in the U.S. on Elvis' birthday... too little, too late.

Elvis has just overtaken Adele on the Amazon (UK) Best Sellers Chart with IICD. Let's hope he can retain this lead until the end of the week.
Natha (profilecontact) wrote on Dec 28, 2015report abuse
I think it is a great achievement in this time to sell so many cds!
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Dec 28, 2015report abuse
"If I Can Dream" will probably sell over a million copies in the U.K. alone by Valentine's Day 2016.
As for another remix album, I appreciate Gospel music, but I think Priscilla and SONY will make a huge mistake if their next album/cd project is solely Gospel. The next project could/should include such lesser-known gems as "I Want You With Me", "It Hurts Me", "Power Of My Love", "Just Pretend" (live), "Green, Green Grass Of Home" (take 1), "Long Black Limousine", "Let It Be Me", "The Impossible Dream" (Madison Square Garden), ... etc.
