It Won't Happen At The World's Fair?

March 26, 2004 | Video
According to a posting on the FECC messageboard it would seem that Warner have pulled the DVD release of "It Happened At The World's Fair" in the UK due to a copyright problem on one of the songs. This has also prevented the DVD release of "Kissin' Cousins""and "Girl Happy".

The DVD was due for release in July 2004 along with "This Is Elvis" (extended version), "Harum Scarum", "Spinout", "Double Trouble", "Speedway" and "The Trouble With Girls". More news when we have it.

To George(GK): Yes, the American video releases of these 2 movies are missing songs. "Startin' Tonight" from Girl Happy and "Smokey Mountain Boy" from Kissin' Cousins. Although the last time I watched Kissin' Cousins on Turner Classic Movies ALL the songs were included. Luckily I had my VCR running and so have a complete copy of Kissin' Cousins again.

What a bloody shame! It Happened At the World's Fair is one of Elvis' better movie. So is Girl Happy and Live A Little, Love A Little --and all these 3 classics are still not out on DVD. So sad!!!

George - As far as I am aware, this is a global problem. It's all about song writers being greedy. In the past, MGM released Girl Happy & Kissin' Cousins minus a song from each film, but I guess they would prefer not to bother re-mastering the film for DVD release if it is not complete, probably hoping that they can convince the writer to do a deal. It recently happened with the song Are You Lonesome Tonight, which had to be cut from both the 68 TV Special & the new film version of TTWII (closing credits). Also, 3 songs were cut from Aloha. I guess the estate have managed to do a deal for the upcoming TV specials due out on DVD. Hope this helps. Mike

Jerry. I have just recorded Kissin' Cousins today from TCM, but it has Smokey Mountain Boy still missing. There were reports a year or two back that a couple of songs from Blue Hawaii might be struck with the same problem, but they obviously got around it. Has anyone noticed the lip sync problem with No More on the DVD of Blue Hawaii. It really is out quite a bit on the first batches. Let me know if you have a copy that is IN sync. Mike
