Sony/BMG Canada will release on August 14th a three CD set in a Gold metal box. This set focuses on the early stage of The King's career, and all 30 tracks are taken from the original RCA masters.

If you were going to introduce Elvis, then surely his 60's and 70's recordings need to be represented? Nice to have a gold box, but he was a diverse perfomer and that should be shown to the public.

freaken bozo's but the only reason id see this worth anything is if they do at least 2 or 3 more volumes. aka the hollywood years , the comeback years and the final years. then i wouldnt be so dissapointed in this. i could put together better cd's in my sleep heck i have done it. i wish i knew how to release to mass market

It is basically just one year in Elvis' career at RCA, 1956. It includes the RCA releases and re-releases of the released and un-released Sun masters in 1956. You get the A and B sides. A surprise is "Harbor Lights" which was not released in the 1950s. The problem here is that they jumble, scramble, and mix up the releases so that no perspective or sense of musical development is shown. They should have sequenced the recordings chronologically, separating the SUn releases from the RCA releases. Instead, we just get a jumble here that is a mess and creates confusion for new fans. They have Elvis' last two Sun singles and the early RCA singles. Why split up the A and B sides? Why not have "Heartbreak Hotel" with "I Was the One", the original RCA single in 1956? Why split them up? This is basically Elvis releases from 1954 to 1956 in no particular order and with no function. It is just a random jumble of recordings that creates confusion in the new fans. It is arbitrary and random, another meaningless compilation.

Indeed, not a set for me (although I have all these songs already),since I prefer ELVIS in the 70's...
