If I Can Dream

December 18, 2009 | Other
The new show "If I Can Dream", which was created by Simon Fuller, producer and jury member of Idols, X-Factor and America's/Britains Got Talent, is described as "post reality entertainment." If I Can Dream, will document the lives of five people who are trying to find success in Hollywood. The description states that viewers will be able to "interact with the cast members and the narrative in real time." The young hopefuls will be staying in the same house. The show will start with the Elvis Presley song "If I Can Dream" as the theme. The house even has a big Elvis Presley poster in it.

Well I have absolute disgust that Elvis has been brought down another level for a reality show, it was bad enough when they used him for crappy American idol now this. Isn't If I Can Dream the song, is a message song, not a song for pathetic little hopefuls wanting stardom. This makes me sick. What wrong with Elvis Presley Enterprises? Thank you for selling Elvis and his music for a measely buck NOT. If this is a way to get younger people to like Elvis, than there is something wrong with young people today if they need a remix or a reality show to like an artist. I'm 21 and never needed those two things, to like an artist.

It's positive exposure. They are driven by sales. People will hear it, and want to own it. Find out what it is, and go buy it. I see nothnig wrong with this. And yes, the chicks are hot!

I'm all for Elvis music getting public exposure but this stinks! The song's wonderful sentiment of longing for a better world of love and brotherhood is being completely betrayed. The song has nothing to do with brainless eye candy and self-absorbed little prats trying to claw their way over each other to reach the top! What a travesty! What on Earth are EPE thinking? The dollar sign is their only bottom line now, it seems.

Thankfully they didn't name this Reality Show "Old Shep".

i love what they are trying to attempt but i think the song they shouldve selected shoud have been follow that dream. if i can dream would be ok for a reality type of show only if it was from very dirt poor people trying to come together with people different from them something like that. shouldnt waste a good and meaningful song on this though. the intentions are great though ill give them that.

It is almost a decade since the success of "A Little Less Conversation", so there is a whole generation of young people who know little or could care less about finding out more about Elvis Presley. Programmes like this which are the viewing diet of today's youth will go a long way to introduce the music of Elvis to the ipod generation who would rather stick pins in their eyes than listen to oldies radio. Wake up and smell the coffee - such exposure is important!

Wonderful news. Such an honour for an Elvis song to be chosen above all others in what will be a very successful TV Show. Great exposure for THE KING.

I agree that it's definitely great exposure for E.P.'s music. This is great timing along with the recent commercials using the 1957 track "Blue Christmas" & the "All Shook Up" track from the 68 Comeback.

Wonderful news. It's such an honour that Elvis gets chosen for all the garbage that's around like this. I was hoping they'd figure out a way of having him on the next 'Celebrity Big Brother', but I suppose we'll have to do with this cheap knock-off tripe and the gay Vegas show. But as long as he's out there in the public eye, that's all that matters isn't it? I hear he's going to be on X Factor next year: I can't wait for that. Maybe he'll sing 'Life' as a duet with Ozzy Osbourne. Wouldn't that be great!

You know what let's just put Elvis's face on Toilet Rolls and ruin Elvis's image for good, Lets have Elvis Impersonators Show aswell so the Impersonators can impersonate each other. By the way I'm.... being..... sarcastic. Why should a message song dealing with real issues to be used for spoilt teens wanting to get famous for doing nothing. Just sitting on their backside twirling their hoping that know on votes them off. Well I have absolute disgust that Elvis has been brought down another level for a reality show, it was bad enough when they used him for crappy American idol now this. This makes me sick. To: Dannyboy1, Harvey Alexander and Aarons...AMEN! A song about hoping for peace and love among human beings being used for what appears to be a really bad reality show (haven't seen a good reality show yet). When I saw the Blackberry commercial using The Beatles "All You Need Is Love", I was appalled, but at least it isn't the Beatles singing. Hearing Elvis' voice on a song that he sang with unmatched passion to promote this trash, is completely sickening.

Love the song. Detest "reality" TV.

Replay If I Can Dream from the 68 TV Special. Truly something wasnt it? A special historic moment with Elvis pouring his heart & soul out. One of the best pieces of footage on him, if not THE best. Now look at it from this new TV show. Kind of sad isn't it? Actually, downright pitiful.

If I Can Dream should never be touched that way. Itt was almost a sacred song in the circumstances of 1968, especially following the assasination of Marthin Luther King in the very town of Elvis. . EPE and Sony should have protected the song against that kind of use, truely a disgrace in such a context. Even after his death Elivs is still a comodity: how sad.
