Hitstory Corrections

I know E1 contained the wrong take of "A Fool Such As I" and the wrong version of "The Wonder Of You". But what was wrong with the masters of "Hound Dog" And "Suspicious Minds"? Did I miss something? Someone please explain.

Hound Dog had a digital mastering problem that created a "POP" and Suspicious Minds had "flanging" which is best described as a 'wow and flutter' audio problem. If you're not too technical and listened on basic audio equipment you probably wouldn't even have picked up on this. Hope that helps.

What about the horrible mix of "Way Down"? There are so many mistakes that are apparent that it's almost unlistenable. I'll take hiss over chaos any day!

Is this true for both the US and EU version? On a well known board someone said the EU version isn't corrected.

Thanks Mr. Scrapbook for your interesting info. Although I cannot claim to have a state-of-the-art stereo system, I wouldn't call it basic either. But I still couldn't hear the "technical mistakes" on the tracks you mentioned. Perhaps age is creeping up on my ears! Still, I've always found "Heartbreak Hotel" on E1 to suffer from what I think is called "sibilance", a sort of hissing sound from Elvis' voice which I do not recall on other CDs. Can you or someone else confirm this? Whatever, I think it's sad and annoying to find that after all the hype with the "breakthrough" (DSD?) mastering applied to these latest releases the engineers have not mastered (excuse the pun) the ultimate sound re-mastering to all of Elvis' catalogue.

Can anyone tell me if the additional disc has been re-mastered.? I have haerd the pop on houndog and always thought Suspicious minds sounded strange toward the end of the track.

None of the tracks has evered suffered from 'wow and flutter' - which is simply speed pitch variations in the bass and treble sounding like vibration on the recording. What some of the tracks do portray is uneven tape wear which has been compensated for with what sounds like differing amounts of compression. Notwithstanding the problems on Suspicious Minds, this still sounds the cleanest and clearest it ever has. And, no I don't have a cheap hifi but a £20,000 all digital Meridian system...

Ernst has obviously not done his homework.. (as usual) 1:Hitstory still has the wrong versions of above mentioned songs. 2:Hitstory is NOT transfered with DSD.
