The USS Potomac, a restored, historic presidential yacht, has sailed into a financial storm, forcing a halt to tours and cruises of the 67-year-old vessel for at least three months.
Once the ship served as a "floating White House" for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Elvis Presley bought the yacht and donated it to St. Judes Hospital on Valentines Day 1964.
Insurance costs, fewer-than-expected visitors and an operational model that failed to produce large profits caused the association to close the ship until a new plan is created. It is expected that the ship will be open again by the summer.
