Help Elvis Make A 19th U.K. #1

July 06, 2004 | Music
The mid week chart for the official U.K. Top 40 singles is showing the Elvis Presley with 'That's All Right' is currently sitting at No.2. With just 1000 copies short of the No.1 single - 'Burn' by Usher, there is a chance that if all U.K. fans all get behind the single and purchase a few extra copies today, they could give Elvis his 19th No.1 single in the U.K.!

The cut-off point for sales in the UK is close of play on Saturday. Sunday's sales count towards the following week. Bearing this in mind, That's All Right could well be ahead of the Usher single 'Burn' if taking the actual time on sale into account (Usher's single has had an extra day of sales). In addition, Elvis has the momentum. It is going to be close.

What a tribute to Elvis on the 50th Anniversary of Rock'n'Roll that would be! HMV released 5,000 limited edition copies of the single yesterday, which fans snapped up within hours of their release. Remember that this single, which has never been released in the U.K. has already topped the charts in America, so let's do the same for the King over here.

Okay everyone - it's time for A Little Less Conversation but a Little MORE Action please. Yes -Go out and Buy, Buy, Buy copies of That's Alright Mama and put ELVIS Presley back to Number One again in UK. Elvis sure deserves this, what with all the happiness and pleasure he's given us all these years. Let's do it for Him.It is so close yet so far BUT with all you guys it can happen. It will be fun to see Elvis finish off the Beatles in their home ground once and for all.

So far, Follow That Dream DVD is only available on Region 1. You can order it from Record By Mail UK. It has a special Disc that can be played on both sides. One side has the Standard Version and the other sides plays the Widescreen version. The quality of this DVD is Superb!!!

Yes, let's put The Beatles to shame! (My favourite group btw). What I would like to know is whether sales through the internet are audited or not with regards to chart sales. I am from Malta but I buy all my Elvis stuff from abroad through the web, mainly from the UK. So I do hope I am doing my part in getting our man to the coveted No.1 spot. Come all you Brittish fans... I know we own the song countless times but, just like Sean said... it's only £2.99

If this does reach Number 1 or even Top 5 it would put Radio 1 to shame as at the end of last weeks Top 40 they didn't even mention Elvis or play a clip of the single. This is a radio station way behind the times and what people really want to hear. On their main website page they even have a question of who do you want to be Number 1 next week 'Usher' or 'Will Young'. Someone in that company really needs to wake up!!

Just heard word that Amazon sales won't count towards the charts. Rather a pity as it has been number one on Amazon all week. Buy from HMV online!!!!!

Come on everyone, spread the news to get family and friends to buy the single. Asda and HMV stores are well stocked. We can't let this special moment go without getting our man to No.1. Let's do it now!

Cockney Bill has put his finger on the problem – beyond HMV you simply don't see this new single. And of course HMV's are not everywhere. I drove 30 miles to my nearest branch, & was surprised to find how many copies of the ten inch vinyl had already been reserved. It looks as if they were only allocated 6 copies of this version, with no more being pressed. Of course the CD single was there, which I bought, but I was disappointed there was no big Elvis display. This was Monday morning, so maybe they have a display now! Anyway, let's get this to number ONE!!

Today, Wed 7th, Woolworths had the "That's All Right" single at no 16. But hey had one copy on sale (which I bought!) No sign of the album "Elvis At Sun" on their shelves, BUT .... NBC was top of their DVD chart, with "Aloha" at number 2 (With a note saying it was not available yet!) not bad for a DVD that's not even been released – You really can't get better than number one & two can you!? Incidentally the US cover & UK cover are slightly different, US has record bag on white background with record showing at top, while UK is a lighter & much closer shot – no vinyl showing, no edge of bag & Sun label a lot bigger.

A sprightly young fella by the name of Elvis Presley could be challenging for the number one spot this week. The King's reissued single That's Alright has surprised everyone by outselling most of today's stars in a few days. At the moment the fifty year old song is on course to land at number two - though it's not that far behind the current chart topper Usher. If sales pick up, Elvis could increase his record of the most number ones to nineteen.

we must make elvis no.1!-50 years ago he started it all..wot a shame if we dont make him no.1./lets give him the reconigtioin he deserves,he is the original and best, thats alright mama started for everyone-even the beatles. if we fail to make him no.1 we should be ashamed of ourselves./lets shut up the beatles fans once and for all and all the anti elvis people in the world, and make him truly king of rock and roll, this single release at the anniversary is the perfect time to prove that elvis was and is the original icon the original rock and roller.

The big problem in getting this to Number 1 is the lack of CD's in most shops. Apart from HMV, this single seems to have caught the Industry on the hop. I have been in 2 Virgin stores and 1 W.H.Smiths and none of them carried the single in the 'new releases' section, and only one of them actually had a copy in the racks if you could be bothered going searching for it. I would guess that a vast majority of 'singles' sales is by people browsing the new releases stand, and if the single isn't there, it's not going to get to Number one. It's a real shame, but I have my fingers crossed anyway.
