Heartbreak Hotel To Be Demolished, Elvis Back In Vegas?

March 06, 2006 | Other
According to a feature in the New York Times the Heartbreak Hotel will be demolished and Elvis' presence will return to Las Vegas.

From the article:

The 128-room Heartbreak Hotel, which stands across Elvis Presley Boulevard from Graceland, will be demolished, along with the visitors center. In their place, Mr. Sillerman plans two 400-room hotels, convention space, an entertainment complex, restaurants, shops, an outdoor amphitheater and a spa.

Moreover, if Mr. Sillerman has his way, Elvis will become a big presence again in Las Vegas, in an interactive museum exhibit and Elvis theme show that Mr. Sillerman hopes will attract millions of visitors a year. Tapping Elvis's international popularity is next: Mr. Sillerman envisions a 15,000-square-foot exhibit that will travel around the world.

hmm i should say that the service i received was bad and the people were rude that i encountered - BUT, im sure there were others working there that were not rude and did a good job. Maybe i was unlucky - but the experience made me never want to stay there again.

Sorry to hear that your stay at Heartbreak Hotel was not good get real. I have stayed there 10 times in the last 5 years and never had a bad experience. There are nicer hotels but I like the convenience of being across the street from Graceland. It will be nice to have 2 new hotels and maybe I can finally get a room close to Graceland during Elvis Week in August.

Have mixed feelings here because I know several people who have stayed there and had mixed reactions from great to poor. But when I visit Memphis I prefer to stay elsewhere as to me it is a bit tacky. Sorry. But "at the end of Lonely Street"!! Please!

But PLEASE Mr. Sillerman, don't make Memphis a fun fair or laughing stock. Yes it needs tidying but please don' t lose the character which we all love! It really should NOT all be about money. You cannot, whoever you are, put a price on character, respect and above all, love!

there is nothing wrong with the hotel its perfect. everything is changing, if you want to revamp the place fine reopen the 'memphis resturant' ! money money money... the only thing is if you oversell elvis it will become cliche and boring to the general public (not fans) but Stillerman don't take us for granted cause I won't line your pockets!

It is about time that something is going to be done about this hotel. I used to bring groups of fans from Switzerland to the old WILSON WORLD (that's how the the hotel was called before EPE bought it and made an "Elvis"-hotel out of it) there.... everything was just superb and very appealing. - Let me tell you, later, at the new Heartbreak Hotel I (we) made ONLY BAD experiences: The staff was terrible rude, unpolite, made a bad room service and printed wrong invoices! I hate it! A good idea to have a new Elvis- and Entertainment-Hotel to be built there...but please ONLY with a good and frendly staff!

I think he should leave the Heartbreak Hotel standing. It is beautiful like it is. Except they could reduce thr price of the themed uites after all it is a little pricey. Over $ 300. 00 a night. I would love to stay in one but Oh the price you would have to be pretty well off to afford that. the hotel staff is very sweet they do a very good goob at cleaning the cleanest one we have ever stayed in , also they have the best continental breakfast those waffle sare just simply delicous.

I think the burden of cleaning up the run down areas in the community around Graceland should be the paid elected city official's job. There is no excuse in the area looking run down here in 2006. I think it's great if these investors add attractions focused on Elvis as long as it doesn't look like a circus. I'd like to see them focus on the music itself that inspired Elvis. If they could have some classy places that focus on the blues & gospel & country music that inspired Elvis, that would be great. They might have a place called "The Roots of Rock N Roll" that delves into what developed into Rock N Roll. Whatever they do, I just hope they keep it classy & not tacky.

Dixieland Rock - your right. The area around Greacland is absolutly scandalous. It is so run down, and it is not any better now in 2006 than it was when i first went there in 1987. There would be ZERO reason for anyone to go anywhere near that area if Graceland was not there. Lets get the rest of the area cleaned up a bit.

I stayed at heaertbrake hotel three times and was treated very well. The staff was nice and I was very pleased. It is a very nice place to stay. A nice new one would be nice to stay at also, sometimes change is good.

We loved staying there - although the bar is small - perhaps they could put more entertainment on there - we definately need more restaurants close by - why can't they convert one of the 2 shut-down stores - I'm really going to miss them - at least they had some decent stuff in - I'm rambling again !!
