Ftd could have made a set of the new material but instead went with the overpriced book. Ftd could have given fans a choice and had the book and cd set but they dont. Everyone cant or wont pay over $100 for a book!

Sorry, but for the folks who are on a fixed income, and who simply do not want a book, I see nothing wrong with them purchasing this. After all, not everyone wants or needs the same thing. I agree that FTD maybe should have had a cheaper option to just purchase a single CD, no book, etc. Collecting is expensive enough. Its nice to see a release like this that would satisfy a need at a much cheaper price.

On Youtube you can actually listen to the 1955 live "I Forgot To Remember To Forget" on 6 different uploads, but on NONE OF THEM you can hear Bill Black's upright bass. Last week I stumbled upon a Dutch site I didn't know before. You can also hear IFTRTF on that site, but man, what a difference in sound !!! Bill's bass is very well audible ! Hope MRS will give us this version on their forthcoming release. Due to Guidelines 5, I can't give the website-info in this posting. Fans who are interested can contact me via my profile/contact. Always El.

Now that's a set list. Fantastic release, affordable and if it's anything like past releases excellent quality. Won't break the bank either.

If this product is legal I don´t see anything wrong in buying it, but if it is not I can´t see any good arguments for saying it is allright to buy it. Even if FTD or whoever wanted 1000 dollars for one song and you were dirtpoor and you really wanted the song, it would not be ok to buy stoolen proberty. I love the fact that FTD give us so many great products, I buy so many I can afford and save up for the rest. I don´t know if they are overpriced, because I don´t know what Sony have to pay in royalities, for the songs they buy, to the people who works on repairing and mastering the songs etc. And on top of that they have to make a profit like everyone else who runs a buisness. I own A Boy From Tupelo, and I think it´s worth every penny and I know that others do to ( 40 was pre orderd in The Danish fanclub ) . Keep up the good work Ernest and co. TCB

Not only are the books expensive, they take up too much space,i hate book/cd releases,if you love them, then thats cool. But give everyone else a option. Ftd only makes the import label thrive more by there desire to leave some fans out.

I bought the MRS version of the Hawaii benefit concert. I did not detect an improvement in the sound quality over what RCA released on the Silver Box set way back when, but the book that went along with the MRS CD was quite nice. I'm not qualified to say whether or not MRS is issuing this CD new legally, yet I don't think Amazon carries bootleg CD's as a rule. Right now, Amazon.uk is offering this CD on pre-order for £9.34. That's about $15.00. Certainly not expensive. Yet in spite of the inexpensive price and the MRS quality, I am not going to buy this set. For me, The Complete 50's Masters issued by RCA in 1992 does the trick. It has everything I want to hear, and more, from that era.

Does anyone know if this is in the book format or a normal jewel case cd

I don't think it's elegal but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe I'm a little bit old school but I would be pissed if someone would use the stuf I just released. For the record A Boy From Tupelo isn't just "a" book, it's "the" book on Elvis early recording years. And maybe it is expensive but it is not overpriced! It's a great (and heavy) book and if you can afford it this is the one to go for.

Of course it is a rip off... Too bad they did not include the live version of Old Shep..

FTD often give us an option , Live in Las Vegas and That´s the way it was, comes to mind and as far as I know the have not desided against releasing A Boy From Tupulo as a CD version without the book, but I may be wrong.

Seems a little pricey just for a plain CD, so I wonder & hope that this comes with a least an expanded booklet! Excellent tracklisting though, good for fans who can't quite afford the excellent "Boy from Tupelo" set.

Not everyone enjoys books, some just want to hear the music. I am also interested in the events, the stories behind the songs etc. Therefore I bought 'Boy From Tupelo' and I think it's worth every penny. You can tell there is a lot of effort involved. Do not think that making money was the only motive. As for the MRS cd, it looks nice and will probably sound reasonably well. I have enjoyed previous releases by MRS but I do not know yet if I am going to buy this one...

What does for the first time General release mean.

Yet another product from M R S that I have no interest in.

They wanted to be the first who release the new live version of IFTRTF..that`s it. A mp3 rip of the you tube clip...the only new thing on the disc.... I wait till Ernst gives it a FTD treatment..
benny scott wrote on September 14, 2012
Oldscudder, I think they mean to say (but I could be wrong) that the majority ( if not all ) of the songs were scattered over several different CDs in the past, but now available on one CD. Cisco, if they use a mp3 from YouTube for "I Forgot To Remember To Forget" , then the sound will be, indeed, not that good. Like I wrote in a previous posting, there's a much better (soundwise) version to be heard on a Dutch site, where Bill's upright bass is well audible, which is absolutely not the case on the different YouTube uploads. Question is : how long will we have to wait before a FTD release sees the light of day, we're not getting younger you know! Always El.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on September 14, 2012
How long will you wait? ask ernst, but dont expect to get a answer. Ftd is a strange little label in my view.

Well I just heard that Elvis Express Radio on Saturday are playing 2 tracks from the upcoming MRS release and I know some fans have been given samples. They are saying it is a tremendous effort by MRS on the re-edits and sound quality than before. I believe in 24 hours we will know for sure if this release is worth the nine pounds Amazon are asking. If indeed the sound quality surpasses what we have had from FTD, then thats the important thing to the fans, that is to get the best. Judging by previous MRS outings recently, such as the Pearl Harbor and the Hayride release, im sure we are in for a big surprise. Cant wait to listen tomorrow.

I dont think that was established. I for one think the sound on the recent MRS releases are well improved in clarity of all the instruments. When it comes to restoration i believe MRS goes further than the CD3 of ABFT and in general further than FTD . Also some of the comments below about the recent FTD sounding the way it did back then is hilarious to say the least. I certainly dont think people heard horrible surface noises and bat splicing edits of any of the sort. They were listening to radio broadcast quality sound from the shows. WE today have nothing from that era were the sound was recorded directly from the radio signal. This is just one poor excuse for FTD not to restore these tracks properly. It is well consented now that even the master tracks from ABFT are worse than before and that Elvis at Sun is in fact better. This of course is because Kevan Budd was not at the helm on this one, unfortunately. The point is, FTD have been cheapskates and if MRS are willing (which I do agree with burrows) to spend more time and effort in restoring these properly then there is no need for MRS and i am in for that. Surely this is what we all want. But FTD has been a let down in this area and MRS is filling the gaps. I demand that FTD do better and they should since this is our fan official label. Yet it takes MRS to get it right. So John Burrows we will see, MRS have not let me down and they speak for themselves. And i think they are the only ones that give out samples thats cool. Anyway I will be listing to the show and see what they give us.

Sound quality is typically an assessment of the accuracy, enjoyability, or intelligibility of audio output from an electronic device. Quality can be measured objectively, such as when tools are used to gauge the accuracy with which the device reproduces an original sound; or it can be measured subjectively, such as when human listeners respond to the sound or gauge its perceived similarity to another sound. So, yah boo sucks, if it's perceived by the listener to be better, then it is...end of story ! I like the MRS stuff because it sounds better and under European law it's legal too. If you live in the States and have a moral objection to buying this and paying $3 for shipping, then don't - and that's your hard luck. We won't be crying in our beer over it.
Bestoftherest8301 wrote on September 16, 2012
You fail to understand that the listeners experience is just (or maybe more) as important as the technical side. You can tweek the sounds as much as you like but if it doesn't sound good on the listeners ears tha,t to my mind, is abject failure. You can argue as much as you like about the technical aspects. You are confused between sound reproduction and sound quality. Many people want (lets say) a Mozart concert played by a philharmonic orchestra recorded / reproduced in an audio quality so that it sounds like you are in the room with the orchestra (subject to you having the necessary listening equipment and you can listen and say ah, thats perfect, sounds great. Now, lets say you do the same to an Elvis concert at (say) the Bloch Arena, are you telling me you would want to hear that as if you were on stage or in the audience, no, no, no. 10,000 kids sceaming, vocals barely audible no way.. I'm sorry you have such a chip on your shoulder about MRS, yep he was foolish over the 1977 concert matrial, I should have said the legal material sold worldwide on A**azon. It's not illegal to post to the USA public domain material and it's not illegal for you to buy it. the 77 concert material is of course a different matter.
Mr Cool wrote on September 16, 2012
MRS's Tupelos own dvd and Off Duty cd releases were good but now they just seem to rip-off Sony with exaggerated claims of better sound. This one in particular leaves a bitter taste coming so soon after ABFT. At least they could have waited a few months. Tawdry moneygrabbers.
sfhusidfuhfhuai wrote on September 16, 2012
There’s sound samples for all tracks on Amazon.co.uk now, click MP3 music tab on the site and type Greatest Live Hits Of The 50s in search, sound quality sounds no better or worse than what we already had, well does to my ears anyway. Speaking of The King of Rock 'n' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters as someone was, the set is finally going to be re-released in mid October.
theoldscudder wrote on September 17, 2012
Wondering why this is not on the MRS site. Does anyone know if it comes in digipac or jewel case?
