Grand Roulette At The Sahara

The next release from the Czech Memory Records will be "Grand Roulette At The Sahara". It contains a previously unreleased audience recording of Elvis' May 6, 1973 midnight show. The accompanying photographs in the booklet were taken between February and July 1973. The approximate running time is 56:54 minutes.

The press release:

As recorded live in Lake Tahoe, Nevada; at the Sahara Tahoe Hotel showroom, May 6th, 1973 - Midnight show. The forthcoming "Memory Records" label CD release is entitled "Grand Roulette At The Sahara".

In 1973, Elvis appeared at Del Webb‘s Sahara Tahoe hotel for the second time since July/August 1971, and his concerts were an even bigger succes this time, with all tickets being sold out in advance. This CD features the previously unreleased Midnight show from May 6th, 1973. It’s a rather typical set with no real surprises, but nevertheless Elvis is in fine fettle and gives a strong and entertaining show for an enthusiastic crowd.

The setlist is fairly similar to "Aloha From Hawaii", with flawless performances of "Steamroller Blues", "You Gave Me A Mountain", "What Now My Love" and "I'll Remember You" being particular highlights. Other strong performances include a haunting "I'm Leavin'", a majestic "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and the surprising addition of "It's Over", just before the show’s conclusion. Even if this not the greatest concert ever by 'The King', it is nevertheless much more than just a professional "casino show routine" – it’s the world's greatest entertainer running his grand roulette at the Sahara Tahoe hotel.

This previously unreleased recording was taken from an early generation copy of the original master tape, as recorded by a member of the audience. All tracks were digitally restored for your best possible listening pleasure. All accompanying photographs were taken between February and July 1973.

What do others think of this CDs quality? How about Steve? MaturePal? Greg?Nathan?Lynda?
Elvislives72? Lex? Ton? Jerome ? Obviously 73 was not a bad show year with some new songs E added but it remains to be seen. Was EP in a good mood that day ? Did he do the excerpt of Surrender like in Vegas 69 before singing Reconsider Baby or Lonsome Tonite? And yes, many of us are wondering what to expect from FTD next year. Is it so complicated for the norwegian guy to send out a informative letter to fan clubs and mags? Lynda is right, the man is not up to commercial worlwide standards when it comes to communication. Somebody pays him too much for sometimes lousy and sloppy work. But so are his bosses, I'm afraid ! Obviously, the only way this can change for the better is when Sillerman steps in and CKXE acquires Elvis' complete music catalogue and let experienced marketing people who are elvis fans, run it !

I've been fortunate enough to hear a sample from this new "Grand Roulette" of a rip-roaring rendition of "Steamroller Blues"! Sounds fantastic ! Guess this will be on my Christmas Wish List for Santa! And, no, it never ends, people! Or at least it seems like that! Keep 'em coming, importers!

Ciscoking, in the past I had a couple of disappointing experiences with audience recordingson imports. How come you know the sound of this CD is ok, as it still has to be released? I'd appreciate any information. Thanks in advance. Always El.

Nice cover from our Czech friends! An unreleased show from 1973 is welcome to me, too bad it is not a tour concert. Maybe next time guys? I hope it is comparable to the released cd high sierra fever, may 7th 1973 (in 2007). He did great shows in lake tahoe.
