January 09, 2002 | Other
The following is adapted from a Greenway Consulting press release: In December 2001, the Almanac of Architecture & Design announced its third annual ranking of the twenty-five Most Visited Historic House Museums, which is found in the newly published third edition of the book.
For 2002, the home of George Washington in Mount Vernon, Virginia, was the most popular historic house destination, followed by the Biltmore Estate, the Hearst Castle, Graceland and Monticello to round out the top five. In order to compile the ranking, historic house museums around the country were polled to determine their total visitation between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2000.
