George Klein Establishes Scholarship

January 16, 2004 | People
Longtime radio and TV celebrity George Klein, who also was a friend of Elvis Presley, has established a scholarship at the College of Communication and Fine Arts at the University of Memphis.

Recipients of the scholarship, for which Klein donated $50,000, must be full- or part-time undergraduates majoring in broadcast communication. The first award will be made in the fall 2004 semester.

Klein hosted the popular WHBQ television show, "Talent Party," which ran in the 1960s and '70s. He now works as a host at the Horseshoe Casino Tunica.

Klein's Christmas charity show and auction provided funding for the scholarship. The show featured such talent as Jerry Lee Lewis, The Righteous Brothers, the Bar-Kays, Black Oak Arkansas, Dr. John, and Blood, Sweat and Tears.

Congratulations to Mr. G.K. on the scholarship that he has achieved . as we know he supported Elvis, thru out his career. He was a great friend, of Elvis and he was with Elvis , thru the 50s, 60s and 70s. He went to the same school as Elvis along with Red West etc. he was there from the beginning to the end. At Elvis funeral , he was a pall bearer and he carried the coffin where Elvis was put to rest . So once again - congratulations to G.k. all the best wishes to him and his family.
