The reason for the book appears to be - according to Google Translation - the poor information the label gives with each release. The fan-club did the research and published it in their quarterly 'Elvis Sound Magazine' magazine.

Lefty – ‘A life in music’ does cover all of Elvis’ recording sessions, even the ones that were cancelled, with songs selected for each session (not all of them made the final cut). I do consider it one of the ‘essential’ Elvis books that each fan should have. TCB

Doesn't Jorgensen's "Elvis Presley: A Life in Music--The Complete Recording Sessions" cover all the juicy details of everything Elvis recorded? I don't own it, but I have no doubt it's in English.

The trouble is a book or catalogue is out of date almost as soon as it's issued. Something is needed like a binder where additions can be made withot having to republish the whole thing again (and me pay for it again). Of course it doesnt have to be FTD that does this. Maybe a good project for someone /a company.

Steve – I agree with you on the classic release; the booklet usually gives plenty of information. The regular digi-pack however does not. As for the LP’s, remember that Chips Moman wanted 'Producer' credit for the album ‘From Elvis in Memphis’ (which he was) but the Colonel flatly refused. Today we are used to CD’s with booklets, listing musician credits, photographer, sleeve designer, etc. In those days, they didn’t have that kind of information on LP’s, or very rarely.

I have a small FTD catalog that was released years ago by Elvis Matters which contains a listing of all the FTD released up to that point. It also includes an interview with Ernest, and photos of alternate cover designs as well. Maybe FTD could release a full catalog (book) of all the releases so far (or from 1 to 100), and include a new question and answer interview with Ernest, and behind-the scenes story on the label, and on some of their releases. I think that would make a great FTD book. A CD could also be included (either a concert, interview, or compilation of the best songs of previous releases), or, a poll could be done through Elvis websites like this, to vote on your favourite song (live, alternate, rehearsal, or whatever) that appeared on a FTD release. The top 20 or 25 songs voted by the fans would be included on a CD in that book (For FTD fans only). Any other suggestions out there? TCB

Well, FTD releases are not entirely devoid of information, certainly not the Classic Album series. Compare this with the 1960s when there was virtually zero information on LPs. The most glaring example was Elvis For Everyone, many tracks on which were a complete mystery at the time, in terms of their origin. Even classics like Elvis Is Back and From Elvis In Memphis had no notes, no nothing.

Yep if in English would be interesting read and reference naterial. Book cover seems to indicate that it's in Japanese. unlikely to be an english translation. It's just annoying that if the info is available why don't FTD put the effort into providing this 'as standard' for each issue. Not even too late now, could do single information sheets for each FTD issue that could be kept in a binder of some sort and updates issued as necessary.. go on FTD.. there's an idea for you... and could earn you a bit of cash too...

Yes folks, Japanese!! However, joking aside, my point was that some Jap books also have an English translation. Does anyone know if the "Elvis Sound" magazine this is taken from was in English as well as Japanese? I've obviously not seen the book yet, so that's why I said it "Appears" to be in Japanese! If it is in English as well it would probably be worth getting for the collectors amongst us.

That means 'what a waste of time', but correctly translated it probably says 'My mothers dog smell like fish poo' as my Japanese is not too good at present.

Cost of buying from Amazon Japan to the UK is Yen 5,700 or £43.54!! And it appears to be totally in Japanese.
