FTD Updates?

August 07, 2007 | Music
Apparently the British Fan Club has published that the October FTD releases are "Girls! Girls! Girls!" (single CD) and "Pot Luck" (2CD); two titles previously mentioned as possible future releases.

Ernst Jorgensen indicated decisions are yet to be made on the October releases. He also said there will be no soundboard album in October.

Well, not my kind of taste I guess...

I don't feel lucky with Girls! Girls! Girls! Pot Luck. But okay I stop complaining my wish already came true with the 2 latest FTD's I sing/Raised.

I like the girls girls girls soundtrack, but not intersted in pot luck the outtakes have nothing to add really, unless you like hearing the guy say lto101 take 6 lol or something like that,i guess no soundboard means no regular release, will have to read between the lines i guess!

By the way i think its about time for a on tour set, waiting on a dvd set to release a cd set is about the sillyiest thing ive heard of,who wants to buy everything at once, besides my oppion is that anything as in a set from on tour on dvd is not likely to happen, has the questions been asked that when a on tour set is released that it will be on ftd or mail label, and how about a soundboard set from ftd?

I'm waiting "On Tour"...

I agree, DVD "On Tour.. is at the top of my list. "Pot Luck" has some good songs.

Fantastic that Pot Luck hopefully will be released.....If we all send an email to Larry King on CNN re is interview with Priscilla next week to have ''Elvis in Concert'' and ''Elvis on Tour'' released on DVD and see what the response will be.....I have already sent my email...

There have been countless Pot Luck songs outtakes released over the years on many different CD's and boxsets. Dont think I will pay for the FTD classic album series just to get them again in one place. Besides this was Elvis' weakest studio album up to that point in his career. Pales to Something For Everybody only a year earlier. And forget comparison to Elvis Is Back! Suspicion was the highlight of the LP. Should have been a single instead of She's Not You in 1962. Would have been a sure fire hit. Im glad for the fans that want this though. It should be released.

They do not own on tour, and Elvis in concert will not happen in my oppion, its about image and the cash cow!

As an Elvis fan since I was old enough to put needle to record (I vividly remember playing "Jailhouse Rock" on the jukebox at the diner where my parents and I were having lunch when I was 4 years old), I have to say that I don't understand all the longing for "On Tour". I would be nice to have on dvd since my video tape of it is not a widescreen version, but "On Tour" was (for me) a real bringdown from "That's the Way It Is" when it came out. I didn't really care for the way Elvis looked in the video...he looked exhausted, pale and the sideburns were too much. Other than the recording of "Separate Ways" and the rehearsals of the religious material, I don't think there would be much point to a cd release of the movie either. As for "Pot Luck", I really like the album. The cover was kind of tacky, but that's always been RCA...tacky covers. The music, however, was really good: Suspicion, Night Rider, Gonna Get Back Home Somehow, Something Blue, and even (Such An) Easy Question were really good listening then and now. "Girls, Girls, Girls" will be good to have also, but I doubt that there will be much more than was on the Double Features cd. This was just my opinion...

I liked the Pot Luck album. The only thing I disliked was his hairstyle for the album cover, it looked more like a hat! Eventually the Estate will release Elvis In Concert - it's just that we are going to have to wait a long time for it. Fans, including me, want the concerts releasing in full. I can't see why the Estate are hanging on to it - they have released songs from the concerts already. If they want someone to got through their tapes, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand - in-fact, I'd gladly do it for free!

I will enjoy the new releases. But what new will appear on Pot Luck? They have already released so many songs on Tickle Me and Studio B. I hope that it will not be a compilation of those two. Girls, Girls, Girls was a good movie with nice songs. Does anybody know how many takes were done to record Return to Sender? I wonder If we can expect some outtake on this oneā€¦

I don't get all bent out of shape about what FTD does or doesn't release each quarter. They'll get around to what I want eventually. "Pot Luck" is a fave of mine. I look forward to its release in the "classic" series. I know it'll come eventually. Also, look forward to "Girls! Girls! Girls!" whenever it happens. Even if they don't have anymore material then was released on the Double Features release. It would still be great to get it in the deluxe 7 inch packaging with improved sound.
FJE wrote on August 08, 2007
Jerry 79: According to the excellent Keith Flynn site (you must take a look at this site) the master of Return To Sender is take 2. No info is given for take 1 due most probably to the tapes being lost. It may be just a false start.
Tony C wrote on August 08, 2007
I like both of these albums and look forward to FTD releases if they happen. Elvis' voice was great at this time, even if the material was not top notch at the time. Even though much of the "Pot Luck" material has already been released on other CD's it will be nice to have them all grouped together.

This is great, but when will we get the Deluxe 2CD Charro release!
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on August 08, 2007
Again with the way he looked, anyone ever lsiten to the actual shows from on tour? they were high energy shows,as for pot luck, what could really be added that would make we want a 2 cd set? rebuying the same outtakes? yes keep on tour in the vaults but release what you already released and put in a nice shiny classic album form!
jenko wrote on August 08, 2007
i didnt think they had many outtakes from girls girls girls un less they have found some....anybody know?
emjel wrote on August 08, 2007
Jenko - yes you're right - out takes from Girls Girls Girls are few and far between as are outtakes from King Creole, Roustabout, Kissin Cousins, Speedway, Stay Away Joe and Change of Habit. So let's hope they've found some more. As for Pot Luck, it was a good album for 1962/63, but certainly not as good as Something For Everybody. Once again I'm looking forward to this as long as we don't get total duplication. They'll probably add outtakes of She's Not You and Just Tell Her Jim Said Hello. But I have to say that all this clamouring for On Tour Cd's is beyond belief. Fine with the movie footage, but by itself - well how many more times can you listen to slight variations of CC Rider, I Got A woman etc, and throw away fast versions of his 50's songs. I gave up buying the live stuff ages ago. But each to his own I guess - no one is forcing us to buy any of the releases so we simply pick and choose what's best for us. I'll be extremely happy in getting all the missing 60's soundtracks, and anything from LMT and JHR.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on August 08, 2007
(Eye's roll) anyways,on tour is Elvis still giving high energy shows.and i like it tons more than aloha,by the way my oppions for anyone reading, are just that oppions, none of this is serios stuff,it takes us away from our every day life,i do think on tour will be covered by ftd,in a box set form, who else thinks that?
Marten wrote on August 09, 2007
Everything the British Fan Club is announcing regarding FTD should be taken with a large spoon of salt. Last time they announced that a double CD with Elvis last concerts should be released. And it was not ... And see see rider, I didn't hear you complaining when people commented on that swimsuit model in the Jungle Room some time ago. Those people certainly didn't keep their sexual references to themselves. So please cool down.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on August 10, 2007
I always take any unofficial news with a large grain of salt, but it is fun to discuss things in a mature way, with all differt kinds of oppions!
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on August 12, 2007
Id really like to see ftd do something with on tour, a nice well put together box set with a nice booklet full of pics and info,i know ive mentioned this a few times, but its just one of the things on my list of things id like to see happen,as for madison sqare garden, try the japan edtion for the evening show and to me an afternoon in the gareen sounds just fine,id not have a problem with another show from the ttwii shows!
Mr Jones wrote on August 13, 2007
that is awsome news. Hope it's true. Pot Luck is a great album one of the first I bought. And it's my boyfreinds favourite, so fab! Wonderful birthdaypresent. hope it's true though
Dan wrote on August 13, 2007
Yeah, Some great concerts or outtakes from "On Tour" would be awesome. That is really the last "Untapped" material which could be a big release...
Rusty wrote on August 13, 2007
I hope this is true.........Girls,Girls,Girls and Pot Luck my number one and two wants on FTD.........always loved both these albums ......keeping my fingers crossed.
Rob Wanders wrote on August 14, 2007
You are both very right Mr jones and Rusty. Pot luck is such a great album with one of my all time favourite ballads: "That's someone you never forget" and other great songs like "Easy question" and "Night rider". And on second thought I like the GGGuys (oeps... slip of the tongue) GGGirls album too. "Return to sender", "We'll be together" and "Where do you come from" are really nice songs, although some songs are, in my opinion, a bit weak, I think of: "The walls have ears", "We're coming in loaded". I hope and expect they will put the song "Mama" in his normal length on the cd too and not only the 0.58 sec version. I think that will be the first time then that song appears as it should be on cd, but I can be wrong.
Mr Jones wrote on August 14, 2007
yeh, <Thats someone> is a beautiful song. i think though that the song mama (long version) has been on a cd already. Not sure though
Tony C wrote on August 15, 2007
The long edit of "Mama" was on the rare "Elvis Latino" CD, but has never been made widely available. I would imagine that a FTD edition of "Girls! Girls! Girls!" would include both versions. I know that the short version is how it was originally recorded, but the long version is how it was first released and how we came to know it.
Greg Nolan wrote on August 22, 2007
The long edit of "Mama" is also on the now-rare reissue of the Pickwick/ Camden (?) double-LP of "Double Dynamite" that RCA and Pair put out in '87....It can still be found, however. I welcome this news of the planned FTD's of "Girls, Girls, Girls" and also "Pot Luck." With better sound, deluxe packaging and at least usually a rarity or two and a full gathering of already issued alternates, I can't see what's complain about, given that this is a "super-fan" Elvis site. I detect some of that usual "I'm bored with it" attitude in some comments but we'll never be able to go back and have Elvis take another crack at these songs or any other ones, so, FTD, please keep on intelligently reissuing them. As for "On Tour," I gather that it will come about eventually. It used to be the Nashville '71 sides, and now I guess we've moved on to "On Tour" lobbying. I suspect it will all be gotten to. I don't get some of the negative comments about "On Tour." While I agree about some aspects of his appearance, the flick (and sessions) feature a still-in-his-'70s prime Elvis rocking out to "Never Been To Spain," "Big Hunk Of Love," "Burning Love," and yes, "C.C. Rider" and "I Got A Woman." Remove the "it's not TWWI" blinders and you'll see it's a high-energy "on" performance, his only slightly diminished appearance aside. If one is tired of either these songs or even the "Girls.." / Pot Luck combo, then it's probably a good idea to leave the Elvis world for awhile and go out and explore other artists- I do it all the time myself and come back refreshed and recall why I'm a fan in the first place. And perhaps it's just me, but given the drum-beat of negativity about many of the soundboards, I find it a little sad to see the schedule cut back to just two releases. It's as if Ernst decided, "you don't like our live releases?" Then how about we just take a time-out" or worse, stop altogether. All that, I hope, is unlikely. I stand a better chance of keeping of with the releases this way anyway. But I'd like to think there are plenty of good live shows they could still be releasing.
Greg Nolan wrote on August 22, 2007
P.S. I meant to say that "Mama" is on an 87 CD, not LP....of "Double Dynamite" (featuring a new "Aloha" shot over the old MSG-like cover)...
Tony C wrote on August 22, 2007
I couldn't agree more with you, Greg. The negative comments regarding these releases are getting out of hand.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on August 22, 2007
The only negative comments i see are about his looks in on Tour,i dont see any negative comments on the ftd releases, as for ernst if what you say greg is true about his attitude for soundboards then its his fault and not the fans,as long as they sell enough,he shouldnt care what we say, some of soundboards are boring, and i do feel better ones could be chosen,of course im not much of a vegas fan pass 1970,back to on tour,id at least like to see the show from hampton roads, even the importers have given us a incomplete show, and dont you think on tour will be handled by ftd? As for the talked about possiable oct releases, girls girls girls might be of interest to me, but not pot luck at the moment, but for those fans who are interested then cool!
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on August 29, 2007
Well greg of course were gonna voice what we would liked to be released, why else would we give our oppion? as for checkin out other music,i do that already, theres still some good soundboards id like to see released,it would be nice to have an idea of they have, titles like pot luck to me are not that intersting, but at the same time theres other things id like,so my thing now is on tour, ive just become more selective, you said that the negative comments about soundboards could make ernst not want to release anymore,i dont think thats going to happen,in fact id be shocked if that happened, hes made it clear he doesnt care about our comments, although of course he really does,as long as they sale ,they will keep coming,i just wish people would stop with the negative comments about on tour,at least give me a cd set, that way people dont have to look at his alful looks! lol again i have issue with ftd but glad its around! have fun all
