Fool

February 05, 2018 | Music

FTD VINYL announced the release of “ELVIS – THE FOOL ALBUM”. Originally released in July 1973, this album’s track listing changed dramatically from RCA’s internal documents circulated just one month before.  Here for the first time, DISC 1 features the LP sequenced as ORIGINALLY PLANNED. The LP artwork also replicates the original draft layout before it was amended. DISC 2 includes
outtakes from the sessions that contributed to the album. Highlights include the rare fully orchestrated version of ‘FOOL” and the 11-minute plus version of “DON’T THINK TWICE IT’S ALRIGHT.”

I like the track listing on the Original Planned Version much more than the one we got. Also, the Aloha cover photo now has a connection to the content of LP. I'll be buying this double LP. Glad to get it in this form after all these years, Thanks, Ernst and FTD team.

I don't normally like vinyl with tracks unneccesarily spread over two discs but in this case i'll make an exception.

Great to have the originally planned cover in full size. It's a nice idea for historic reasons - Joan Deary's version instead of Felton Jarvis' pressed on vinyl. According to "A life in music" Joan also planned to include "Until it's time" and "Blue suede shoes" from the MSG afternoon show. Would have been a nice gimmick to include them here as well.

I actually think the vinyl sequencing is more in-line rather than what was actually released on original 1973 Lp and FTD CD's.

As much as I have always admired Elvis and his unique singing ability, he was indeed a FOOL to agree with Colonel Parker to sell his back catalog to RCA in March of 1973. Elvis had no realistic idea about the long term value of his own back catalog.
