Follow That Dream Wide Screen

May 03, 2004 | Video
The DVD release of "Follow That Dream" will be released in the full aspect ratio 2:35 (letterbox) according to a post on the FECC message board and a scan from the back of the DVD. It seems we should partly thank July Garland fans for this, see the excerpt from the posting below. Besides the two screen formats and original theatrical trailer there will be no other extras on this DVD.

"From the hometheather forum:
"Follow That Dream" was originally slated to street earlier this month, but was delayed (to May 11th, I believe) in order to be released with it's full 2:35 aspect ratio intact. Not sure about this, but the Judy Garland film "I Could Go On Singing" (also shot in 2:35) was due to be released on the same day, but fans went beserk over its proposed pan/scan treatment and went as far to contact MGM to voice their displeasure...so I think this definitely came into play as far as FTD being pushed back as well."

Guys ..this was the first time I have seen or rather not seen elvisnews post a "news" almost as soon as it was available! From the technical geeks on FECC it would appear that this release is still not the "real thing" ie. it is not "Anamorphic" wide screen. Were still following that dream....

Does anyone know if this DVD will be released in only the widescreen format? Amazon has it listed as full screen and I've been unsuccessful in trying to find out from them if in fact the format will be widescreen. I'm afraid to order from anywher until I can find convirmation of the formt!

I sent at least 5 e-mails to MGM concerning the widescreen issue and suggested others do the same. I even offered to lend them my laserdisc if they had a problem in sourcing the print again. I guess that's why the street date was put back so that it could be mastered properly. Maybe the fans hardwork paid off. Warners who distribute the MGM product have no plans to release Follow That Dream in the UK. They do not even hold the rights at the moment unlike the other 3 United Artist films. It might be a copyright problem for region 2. With regard to Anamorphic widescreen, this is something unique to DVD and widescreen 16 x 9 widescreen TV ratio. It costs money to re-do the master print, and I don't thing MGM could see a viable return on that cost. Let's be thankful for what we've got.

This is good news.Does anyone no if the film will be released in UK? Also, if anyone bought the region 1 DVD of Clambake when it first came out and was dissapointed with the picture quality, well the UK release has been taken from a better print and is in much better quality and also enhanced for 16:9 tv's.

I would love to see them take maybe four elvis movies. one of them Follow that dream and take just elvis out of the screen and put him in todays scene just like the movie Steve Martin made called Dead Men dont wear plaid. He made 33 movies. they have alot of Elvis on film to work with maybe Jim Carrey could star in it and it could be ELVIS and Jim Carrey starring in a movie together
