Fake (Elvis) Money

July 03, 2007 | Other
Merchants in the UK are receiving the last weeks more and more fake money with Elvis’ picture and the pictures of other celebrities. The novelty money is available in a range of £5, £10 and £ 20. It seems to be that the money has got a realistic look and feel, but the difference is the image of a celebrity. Besides Elvis, there are notes with Barbie, Star Wars and lots of cartoon characters. The president of the board of merchants does not understand how a salesmen can make a mistake by accepting this money, but he changed his mind after holding the bill in his hands: ‘If you fold the note in such a way that you can not see the picture, you can not see if it’s a fake. It’s very normal that the guy behind the counter of a busy store does not see the fraud.’ In the meanwhile, there is a complain filed against the producers, because it’s against the law to copy money in such a realistic way.

I would really like to get some of this money if it is legal ...just for my Elvis collection. Can you tell me if this is possible please. Thank you.

A mere glimpse at this “money” reveals its token status, it doesn’t resemble any Sterling currency so to argue a store keeper in a busy shop would not notice is as absurd as suggesting I could walk into a British shop and buy goods with American dollars.

I agree with Matt W it doesn't look like currency we have now.And if any shopkeeper accepts it as legal tender they don't deserve to own or work in a shop.

Crazy, who would accept this as real money? I mean you must be from another world to believe that. Who would give Elvis this honor to be on a dollarbill? I think that won´t happen in the next 50 years; there are still so many freaks walking around not wanting to accept he was something so very special...I believe this `ll take at least another 100 years; no wonder, though - in my eyes one of the reasons that`s the way it unfortunately is, is the "wonderful heroic lies and exaggerations" in the stories and books brought out all the time by those who still brag with having been part of the so called Memphis Mafia instead of stopping to hinder the myth Elvis Presley in its individuality and shining aura.

The reason it doesn't look anything like our current currency is because it doesn't and it's not. I e-mailed a scan to elvisnews yesterday of one of the actual notes that is causing the problem and believe me when folded in half you could get away with thinking it's the real deal, and yes...... I WORK IN A SHOP ! Anyone interested in seeing a scan of one of the actual notes (that is not depicted here) can e-mail me from my website, the elvis presley scrapbook. I can't post a link here as it's not allowed but just google search elvis presley scrapbook and you can contact me from there..... if you're interested that is.

At least now the photo shows a note that looks like a £10 note that is in circulation now.not like the ones they showed earlier which were in circulation many years ago.So mr Scrapbook i can now see what you're saying.
