European Candle Light Vigil

June 13, 2007 | Other
The German Elvis expert and former teenager fan while Elvis was stationed in Germant, Klaus Kirt Ilge, is putting together a European candle light vigil in memory of Elvis on August 16, 2007.

The group will walk from EP Square in Kaiserstreet Friedberg to the Memorial Stone called “Stele” on EP Square Bad Nauheim to pay their respect to the artist of the century. All European fans who feel like paying their respect to Elvis this way are sincerely invited on August 16. Torches are available.

Oh how awful. What a field day for the media. I hope it rains!

I agree Todd. I'm not a fan of candle light vigils nor would I ever want to be a part of one. They look too much like some religious service. I'm not saying that they are or that's the fans intent but they do look like worship services to alot of people. The only one worthy of worship is The Lord in Heaven, not Elvis.

What's wrong with organising a vigil candlelight in Germany, in a city where Elvis spent two years of his life? It's an opportunity for the fans who cannot afford ( financially ) the trip to Memphis to pay their respect to our man. As for the " worshipping " : in my opnion most of the fans who join the vigil ( be it in Memphis or in Germany ) have only one goal : being part of all those men and women who admired and adored Elvis and pay their respect to his memory. To admire and/or to adore somebody is not the same as to " worship ". And by the way baggypants : it's not because you are ( probably ) not a believer that this gives you the right to be sarcastic and laugh at people who do believe.

To me a candellight vigil is done maybe right after someone dies not 3o years laterby people who didnt know him personally, it does nothing for him as far as media goes, sure they will talk about it,but it what way!

I had the pleasure of attending 7 Vigils in Memphis - and I can assure you: goosebumps all over. To me, it's one of the most special moments/events of Elvis Week. By the way - I know Klaus Kurt very well, and he's a very down to earth guy. 100% Elvisfan (as his countless pictures with Elvis from '58-'60 proof) and very devoted. Nothing wacky about this Vigil - at all. I hope it's 30 degrees C, Klaus Kurt!

Can we once and for all get rid of the Elvis haters on here? It's no different than real life...harvey, dixie land and mature...i'm sure you're unhappy in real life and that's a shame. Find another site would ya? For most of us Americans who see that Europeans are doing a candle light vigil, it makes us very proud. There always has to be someone out there who just can't help to be negative i guess....the same people that just can't seem to put a smile on their face. Oh well. For those going...you rock...heaven forbid you do something fun and something that you believe in. Let the ne sayers be miserable...let the Elvis lovers remember, pay respect, and just have a good time remembering someone so important. TCB.

todd3368. I have no problem with what you say. I fully respect anyone's right including yours to participate in a vigil. But you misread what I actually said. First of all, I never in any way condemned anyone that does the candlelite vigils. Read carefully what I said. I said that to many people, they do look more like some religious ceremony. Read carefully also, I never said they are. I merely stated my opinion of why I am not a fan of them. I have no problem with anyone wishing to be in a vigil. As far as I'm concerned, anyone wanting to be in it, hey go for it. To set the record straight, I'm very happy in life. I'm in no way an "Elvis hater". Making a comment doesn't a person a nay sayer or a hater for that matter. In the Elvis world there is "Something For Everybody". TCB
