Error On Aloha DVD

June 18, 2004 | Video
The first disc of the "Aloha From Hawaii" DVD set contains an error. During Elvis arrival the disc skips to the next chapter (the concert) when you play the first scene from the scene selection. If you select "play all" in the menu the DVD stops at the end if Elvis arrival.

BMG Holland is checking the story on the Aloha error now with BMG International and with the factory's. They will announce there findings as soon as possible.

Neckywoudje - I hope you are joking because this would be horrific news.

Mistakes don't happen at this level of production. Jobs should go for that. Many a fan has been looking forward to Its Hurt Me. EPE take full responsibilty at the end of the day.

Aloha DVD - Some people might think "these things happen" but in reality these things don't happen. This is the biggest Elvis release in history, a worldwide event and these omissions are a disgrace. In particular, the error in the Elvis introductions is shocking, it really does make a non-Elvis fan smirk in our faces. Don't be fooled by EPE's statement, they have people who proof read and triple check everything, If I had made those errors at work, I would be looking for a new job. On a positive note, I think from what I have seen from the previews, the sound is absolutely brilliant. Negatives for me was the 17 minute Elvis arrival where for even a hardcore fan like myself, I could have fallen asleep.

I'm so damn mad over the "It Hurts Me" screw up I canceled my order for the "68 Comeback DVD. "We're sorry" from EPE doesn't cut it for me. Elvis is their only artist. They had years to get it right and they still got it WRONG.

I really can not believe this. These mistakes ruin Elvis' image. I mean not his image but Graceland'... How can not they be aware of it? Mistakes on both releases? I ordered both dvds from amazon but it seems that I'll have a sadness. It's a shame.. Totally shame...It shouldn't be for these releases; actually for any Elvis release. And shame on Graceland... Without knowing the mistakes they're talking about "world" premiere... Such a mistake for serious/reliable companies like Graceland and BMG. What do you think people?

I agree this isn't a major problem, but when you buy something, specially if you're paying a good amount of money, you expect it is perfect.
CapiTrueno wrote on June 18, 2004
I have no idea why it isn't out today here!!!
CapiTrueno wrote on June 18, 2004
The Fool: In click2music (official BMG spain site) Aloha is listed to come out today.

I have contacted BMG Spain and I've been told Elvis At Sun, Aloha and Comeback will be available on monday...

The Fool: you better say "perdón" :) but it's all right anyway...

Only happens when you choose scene selection. Choose Play All and everything is ok. Doesn't bother me ...

It is true!, It Hurts Me is missing in the re-mastered version of the special, found on disc 1. This is NOT an error on the disc but an error from the persons that edited the whole set. As Elvis say's on Aloha during the aftershow recordings: 'Everyone can make one stupid misstake', but it looks like this is a real bad one (with over seven hours of material it is easy to make a misstake though). This error is not for BMG but one for Graceland and the producers. Shame!

Jim, it seems it was done on purpose; here is EPE's expalining concerning "It Hurts Me" In the orginal December 1968 broadcast version of the the ’68 Special as seen on the DVD set, the song It Hurts Me is missing from the Guitar Man production number. Why? The bordello scene in the Guitar Man production number was cut from the original 1968 broadcast due to sponsor objections and It Hurts Me appears to have been cut for time. A little-known fact. Video and DVD releases up to now have included the restoration of both these segments to the production number. For this edition, only the bordello scene was restored. Not restoring It Hurts Me was a freak accidental oversight in going through mutliple original tape sources early on in the project and was not caught – as evidenced by the fact that the song is included in the track listing for the Guitar Man production number medley in the liner notes. We’re sorry. But, as promised, you DO get the original broadcast version with the bordello scene restored. As for It Hurts Me, you get all takes of it as well as all takes of all components of the Guitar Man production number elsewhere in the DVD set.

I hate to bring this up but does anyone see the last part of, It Hurts Me, in the 3rd disc outtakes. You know the karate dancers come out and when they finish Elvis finishes the song and ends up with his foot on top of a heap of bodies and the girl walks away. I do not see any takes of this portion of the song. Nor are there any takes of the karate dancers. I went back to my old Lightyear DVD (boy what a stepdown in quality) because I felt like part of the song was missing, even in the outtakes. I can't find this last portion of the song. Please someone tell me that I'm wrong. All I've seen so far is takes 111 through 126. Where is the rest of, It Hurts Me?

No, I don't think it was done on purpose. In the EPE material you posted, it says this: "Not restoring It Hurts Me was a freak accidental oversight in going through mutliple original tape sources early on in the project and was not caught – as evidenced by the fact that the song is included in the track listing for the Guitar Man production number medley in the liner notes. We’re sorry. " Clearly, they're saying it wasn't intentional.

I made some comments on the Aloha DVD (januari 13 footage used in january 14 concert!), but the thing I discovered now is really, really awfull! Just watched the original broadcast version of 68 special (disc 1)... right after Big Boss Man the screen flipped to the dance sequence and after that it turned to the guitarman segment... It Hurts Me, one of the greatest songs of the special, isn't there! So I tought maybe it wasn't aired in '68. But the booklet states it does, it's in the tracklisting of it! They put the bordello scene back in, but where is It Hurts me?? This ruins this production number completely...it just makes no sense anymore. So when I wanna see It Hurt's Me, I must turn my VHS back on? Or do I have to wait untill the next release? I've never expected this! This is a real bad error! I Can't believe this!

Jim, Unfortunately I'm not joking. It's true, as far as I can see there's no 'master' of It Hurts Me... Only the outtakes... since it was shot in pieces, it can't be compared to the original. And the worst thing: It Hurts Me is in the dvdmenu and booklet... so it must be an error. It looks a bit weird to... the dancing scene right after big boss man: out of nowhere!

Remco, What do you exactly mean with 'not going very well'? Do you mean that they don't sell? If that's the case it's not yet a problem... they are out since wensday and the promotion hasn't started yet...

I can live with the Aloha intro error, but the omission of It Hurts Me is inexcusable. We wait so long for this set to come out and EPE screw up. If they were real fans this simply would not have happened.Shame on them. They should repress disc 1 with It Hurts Me and send it to all fan clubs/dealers etc like the So High cd.

Probably will be out in Spain June 21... I'm guessing only the people who attended the Dutch preview last wednesday own them so far. Or they just won't release it in Spain, so all the dvd's can sing "Never Been To Spain" along with Elvis.

CapiTrueno: Dispénseme... (let's hope the dictionary was right and I'm saying sorry now and not calling you names).

I have played the Aloha from Hawaii deluxe set now for 2 days in a row, both disc's and also the one with the arrival-segment. I don't have any trouble of an *error* like mentioned above. So it maybe that some are beeing to quick with their complaint regarding the DVD. Most of those *errors* are because of a dirty laser eye or some small dust on your DVD-disc. Check that out cause I played it on my audio-DVD system and also on the DVD player of my powerbook. Both gave no problem at all. And of it stil exists: Back to the store and get a new one!
Remco wrote on June 18, 2004
I can't imagine that BMG hasn't noticed this problem. I think it's a bad thing that they put these dvd's on the market. Especially because this was the world premiere and it's bad publicity. I also bought one and I must say it's very annoying when you watch the particular scene. Let's hope BMG will come with a statement and replace them for new ones.
Remco wrote on June 18, 2004
Neckywoudje it seems you are right, the dutch website Elvis Nederland is also reporting this error. I have not checked it myself. But it looks like that both releases are not going very well. The great questions is of course, is this only a problem in the netherlands or is it going to be a problem in other countries as well, because the will release it in the next few days!!
