January 11, 2004 | Video
EPE will add a special section to their official Elvis website to promote the new editions of the "Comeback Spacial" and "Aloha From Hawaii" DVD releases. It will be a promotional "home" for all the information with video clips, FAQs, etcetera.

It's just too bad that, when you listen closely, save for a few performances (eg I'll Remember You, It's Over and American Trilogy), the Aloha concert really does not show Elvis on good vocal form. It's easy to make the assumption that's it's a great show because of the special occasion and the scale of it, but it doesn't compare to many earlier or even later shows. I know it will be unpopular to say it, but this is not the Elvis that I want widely promoted as the definitive 70s Elvis to the general public. He could and did do much much better in the 70s. Don't get me wrong, I will still buy the DVD and love seeing the remastered pictured quality, new footage etc. I just don't have a huge desire for the public to think this was Elvis at his peak. I have seen the concert written about in those terms and any non-fan watching who believes that is going to be left with a very inaccurate picture of how exciting Elvis could be in the 70s. To give an example, compare Suspicious Minds from That's the Way It Is with the Aloha version. Well there is no comparison right? Even the 50s songs are given more respect in 1970, with a great version of Blue Suede Shoes in TTWII compared with the lacklustre Aloha version.

I can't wait for the Aloha From Hawaii DVD release, I just hope that they will also release the Alternate Aloha - I sure hope that they will advertise this DVD release very well, because it's not only important for the Elvis fan, but for general music lovers and historians, especially music historians - since it is the very first concert to be broadcasted around the globe. Sure hope that bonus material will include how the world reacted to this first ever concert via sattelite and what kind of response Elvis got through out the world. Keep up the good work, EPE, on informing us on how the projects for 2004 are going
