Elvis Wines To Hit UK

February 02, 2005 | Other
A selection of wines bearing late rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley's image are due to hit UK stores this year.

The wines titled "King Cab", "jailhouse Red" and "Blue Suede Chardonnay" have already had huge success in America and feature a picture of the singer on their labels.

Brian Peck, Signature Wines' vice president, says, "We realise people buy the wines for the novelty of Elvis being on the label. "But we put good wine in there as well so that once they have tried them customers come back. "People are really taking to them."

It's great to see this product will be available to more than just the US.

Yet more conclusive proof that EPE are a bunch of two-faced, money grabbing, backstabbing Col Parker clones. So, this is protecting Elvis' legacy and improving his image is it? He didn't even drink for christs sake! What next? The Elvis "Rock a cooler baby" wine chiller? Or how about my favourite: The "Blue Suede" complete and utter tacky rip off. A sample of the lyrics: "You can sell my name, sell my cars, stick my face on a toy guitar, do anything that you wanna do, but don't show my videos on BBC2" I wonder what they taste like.

Good I am glad to hear that the wine will be hitting the UK stores! It is about time the UK had something as well as America the fans are here too! I will buy the wine as soon as I find it and I will buy one set to drink to give an opinion on the taste and I will also buy a set to keep! Stop moaning about how EPE are money grabbing it's because of them that we get Elvis merchandise. I think it is a very good idea!!

I got all the Elvis wine selections for Christmas (they are all great, esp. the Cab Sav!) and they still sell them here in Ohio in the Acme grocery stores for about $10/bottle! Try them.. you'll love them!

I'm very glad that you're satisfied with EPE, katelouise. It must be wonderful being happy with a company which bends over backwards to promote and endorse everything except the music of Elvis. I didn't realise that merchandise (ie. cookie jars, jumpsuits, plates etc) was a redeeming feature of EPE. And there was me thinking that their job was to promote his music. I hope everyone enjoys their "Blue suede Chardonnay" all comfortable sat on their Elvis cushion, being kept warm by their Elvis hot water bottle while the dog eats his "Love Me Tender" doggie chunks. Meanwhile, back on earth, Elvis Presley is re-writing the record books and an entire younger generation hasn't got a clue what the man looks like. If EPE put HALF of the resources into Elvis' cd releases as they have in promoting squashed grapes, then you wouldn't be able to go anywhere without seeing his face. It just seems a tragedy that while Elvis is dominating the British charts, the only place you can see him is down the local off-license.

Can't wait! Been contacting Signature Wines for ages to push for UK market to be hit. Great, hic!

PS: Lighten up a little Viva. Whilst I completely agree with you about the lack of promotion of Elvis music, a little fun never hurt anyone and I know it will make millions of dollars but it will be great fun and you never know may introduce friends and family to investigate the Elvis magic when you take a bottle round to them to share! Keep smiling ... it's Friday!!

Point taken. As you may have noticed EPE are not my favourite people at the moment, so I stand by what I said. Enjoy your drink in any case. Let us know what the hangover is like!

Oh come on, you'll be telling me you can't get drunk on shandy next. Anyway, I had a whole can of lager last night, and I was only sick once, so just you watch it. There's nothing wrong in playing with Barbie dolls either. Ahem.

Viva for goodness sake calm down. Why be vindictive to fellow Elvis fans? I thought we were all singing from the same song sheet but obviously you have lost yours! It's just fun; albeit money making fun! What .. no friends to share yours with! Only kidding, but hey don't get so deep over every article!

Er, Crawfish mate, you obviously didn't notice the humour intended in my comments after your posting on the 4th. My sincere apologies to you or anyone else if you are offended by anything I say, but this site is all about letting your opinion known, and as in the Elvis world this is a rare thing, I do seize the opportunity when I can on issues I feel strongly about! This whole wine thing, on it's own, is not an important issue. But when viewed within the context of EPE's current behaviour, it's not as insignificant as it should be. But there I go getting serious again. I don't think I'm right, it's just my opinion. Yes, we are all singing from the same song sheet but we all interpret the lyrics differently! Anyway, as I said previously: Enjoy your drink!

Don't worry, this is only the begening! I did read in some article the other day, in the future they'll going to sell beers with Elvis's name and his picture. What do you think about that? I can't believe it!
Crawfish wrote on February 09, 2005
Viva, I shall toast your health. And there's no need to apologise to me, but you get so steamed up on everything! I would be first in the queue if I thought anything would damage Elvis' name or reputation, but I just see this wine thing as what it is: a bottle of wine with Elvis' name on it, a bit of fun. Chill out, if I knew where you were I'd send you a bottle to help you relax :-) All the best.
