I agree with elviskid80. This Legacy Edition is outstanding! The booklet is fantastic, the packaging is superb, and the sound could not be better!! What a treat! At first look, I thought "This thing is a FTD-Madison hybrid!!" So happy I bought this set.

Anyone heard this one yet? Some retailers got it in stock last monday.
And why isnt this topic/news on elvisnews.com front/page?

Jerry, if you decide not to order "Elvis Today", then maybe a different type of release might be of interest to you - - In conjunction with the new U.S. Elvis stamp, Sony Music’s RCA/Legacy Recordings will be releasing an exclusive CD titled "Elvis Forever". The disc will be available online and in select post offices beginning Aug. 12
JerryNodak (profilecontact) wrote on Jul 2, 2015report abuse
Pre order "Today?" I haven't yet decided whether I will order it at all. An underwhelming release.
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Jul 2, 2015report abuse
At $13.94 plus $3.99 for shipping & handling (U.S.) there's really no need to pre-order it yet. Between now and the actual time of release, just wait for a sale price on am*zon or check elsewhere for a better price.
circleG (profilecontact) wrote on Jul 1, 2015report abuse
Just seen how much this is going for on am*zon .... Wow .... Isn't that why people turned to downloads in the first place?
JerryNodak (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 29, 2015report abuse
I always read with interest on this website (and others) about all the problems people have had with shopelvis. I've ordered dozens of items from them and I've NEVER had a problem. Just living right I guess. I shall continue to use them.
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 29, 2015report abuse
FTDs are closer to EP-size, not LP-size. Just sayin'.
mature_elvis_fan75 (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 29, 2015report abuse
Shopelvis, wow ,do they still throw items in a bubble mailer and and they come with creases everywere. lol
Nice idea for elvis now but that would be too good,i personally dont like the lp size ftd's.
JerryNodak (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 28, 2015report abuse
Personally, I'm finding it almost impossible to feel any excitement about this release. On the other hand, I've already pre-ordered Elvis' Golden Records (FTD) from shopelvis.
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 28, 2015report abuse
For a future Sony Legacy Edition idea...
CD1 - "Elvis Now" including some undubbed masters and alternate takes.
CD2 - A remixed/remastered concert of April 9, 1972 in Hampton, Virginia... or April 10, '72 in Richmond.
Jamie (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 28, 2015report abuse
Hello Mature Elvis Fan. I'm afraid it's true - the Aloha and Madison Sq Garden Legacy editions regressed to the 1970s mixes. Both give the Legacy series a real unevenness - others in the schedule have been bona fide state-of-the-art productions. In particular, 'From Elvis In Memphis' is a great release, and 'Elvis In Person' used the terrific FTD masters. One wonders if the dodgy mixes of those 2 early 70's shows were used in error, or if the Presley brand is continuing to be undermined by tacky commercialism.
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 28, 2015report abuse
The omission of alternate takes and "Tiger Man" on this new set might leave the FTD issue (from 2005) a desirable item for any fan who hasn't already purchased it. Wise move from a business standpoint.
Dazman (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 28, 2015report abuse
Nothing major against the concert material used here, but I can't understand why Joan Deary didn't originally use the Memphis show on the EAP box to begin with.
mature_elvis_fan75 (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 27, 2015report abuse
Is it true the prince from another planet that came in those cheap ,crappy cardboard cases was redone and remastered but the legacy version wasnt? Why would they do that, get it right, again other artists seem to have people who know what there doing.
mature_elvis_fan75 (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 27, 2015report abuse
Its great thats its being remastered by someonw who knows what there doing. I think this should have been all about the studio work, then i could get rid of the alful ftd version. But again everything is here and there ,yes the ftd version took all the outtakes and put them in one place but the masters sounded like crap. Theres always something missing when it comes to the Elvis releases,i like the legacy releases, they are not overpirced, and there not in the oversized lp looking cases ,that get so easlily damaged. This is why i wished ftd would have just done outtake releases in stead of the classic albums. Some order ,because its just too chaotic ,and im sure new fans dont know were to start. Im sure ftd will releases the june,75 show in oversized lp type thingy, and the show put on this legacy release could have been put out with the june ,75 show from memphis, I would have also loved some new outtakes, the today ftd version wasnt what it could have been.
circleG (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 27, 2015report abuse
I hear both discs are remastered by Vic anesini, now if Ernst can just redo Legacy Aloha and Madison....
claunath82 (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 27, 2015report abuse
Good choise for next legacy release but i don't understand why we don't have the tiger man jam and some alternate, some of them are really good

You're right of course, Jim - thanks for the correction.
Jim Davidson (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 25, 2015report abuse
"From Elvis Presley Boulevard" and "Moody Blue" were recorded at Graceland -- not a regular recording studio. "Today" was the last time Elvis recorded in a studio.

Just wondering when is the release date ?
Jamie (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 25, 2015report abuse
Hello. I think the 'From Elvis Presley Boulevard' LP came after 'Elvis Today', Jim. Regarding the sound of the so-called 'Elvis In Dallas' material, it was sourced from soundboards and there's not much they can do. Let's hope this release reaches the heights of the 'From Elvis In Memphis' and 'Elvis Presley' Legacy releases rather than the 'Aloha' and 'Madison Square Garden' ones on which they inexcusably used inferior masters to those used in other issues (eg, the 25th anniversary 'Aloha' single CD and the 'Prince From Another Planet' set). Absolutely disgraceful to use obsolete masters on modern CD's, particularly on live in concert ones with the fade-ins and fade-outs that were necessary on vinyl.
Jim Davidson (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 25, 2015report abuse
I enjoyed the live material on the Silver Box set and the "Elvis in Dallas" CD. I was disappointed that they did not upgrade the sound on the CD re-issue of the "Elvis Aron Presley".

In terms of the "Elvis Today" Legacy edition, I would have preferred "Elvis/Fool" for CD #2. While neither album sold well in their initial release, they contain great material. "Fool" was the first LP released after Aloha; "Today" was the last studio album.
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 24, 2015report abuse
I'm a little bit surprised that they didn't include the studio jam of "Tiger Man" to kick off the "undubbed versions" section on Disc 1.
jimsayshello (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 24, 2015report abuse
Dallas was the first soundboard I ever owned… was so excited when I heard the very different treatments of Let Me Be There and How Great Thou Art… always had a soft spot for it. I think it's a great surprise for new fans who may have only a few of the mainstream releases.
circleG (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 23, 2015report abuse
It's important to get the Legacy series right for the sake of new fans. I know someone who is 67 and had just discovered Elvis and helping them build a collection of Cds is not easy. It's like finding a needle in a hay stack and even then you have to settle for second hand copies sometimes because new copies are so expensive. This needs to be rectified. with the ressurgence of vinyl I'm predicting downloads will have their day and youngsters will want to go back to holding a product provided its value for money.
bajo (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 23, 2015report abuse
I have bought all the Legacy releases so far! This time I'm going to hold back until I'm sure the studio album contain the latest upgrade of the masters. I really could have done without the second disc! I can't see a soundboard recording adding anything to the legacy of Elvis as a recording artist. A track like The Wonder Of You are far off the splendid version done in February 1970. They could at least have gathered some of the best performances done in 1975 on that disc.
Dazman (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 23, 2015report abuse
The track of TROUBLE on EAP is spliced between both the Houston and Dallas versions. I heard the full Dallas version from the 'creeping crud' bootleg on You Tube. I hope they user he full Houston version here.
Lefty (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 23, 2015report abuse
Someone mentioned the June 10 Memphis show should have been included instead of the Dallas tapestry show. That would have been excellent! That being said, I do like the Legacy releases. The artwork is always classy, and the price (around $15 USD) is doable, even if you only want one of the two discs! I will buy this one. I skipped the FTD version, and my Silver Box set is long gone. It will be nice to have that show once again, and I am looking forward to the undubbed session takes.
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
circleG, I also would have preferred two separate Legacy Editions for "In Person" and "On Stage" with bonus discs (in order to get more unreleased material at a reasonable price), but I pointed out why Sony did what they did. They continued their consistent trend (at the time) of pairing classic albums together that had something directly in common. I fully understood their strategy... even though I would've preferred more.
Jamie (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
Hello. I agree On Stage and In Person deserved stand alone double-CD releases. Now that FTD has nearly depleted the archive, and the Legacy series is in process, When the Legacy schedule reaches its endgame, and Sony BMG faces the challenge of rebranding Elvis's music yet again, it's hard to imagine any other outcome than this: double CD versions of individual titles that will be almost identical to the FTD releases. The sound my have been slightly improved still further, the packaging will be nothing like as impressive as the FTD's and they'll have to make them affordable. I can't see any other way forward - if my friends out there see it differently, I'd be interested in your views.
circleG (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
Memphisfan I would have preferred two separate releases with complete shows from each season. That would be more in line with the rest of the live Legacy releases. To put them together like this suggests a slight case of laziness. The engagements had two distinctive styles . August69 was Elvis proving to the world and himself he could still cut it. February70 Elvis wanted to expand and grow his live repertoire. They really deserved two releases.
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
The "In Person" album was rightfully paired with the "On Stage" Legacy Edition for 2 reasons -- 1. Two songs on the "On Stage-February 1970" album were actually recorded in August 1969. 2. At the time of the Legacy Edition re-issue, Sony was pairing together common Elvis albums. There really wasn't/isn't a common album from Elvis' lifetime to properly pair together with the "Today" album... "Good Times" fits with "Promised Land", and "From E.P. Boulevard" fits with "Moody Blue".
circleG (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
The Legacy series has some great releases for new collectors (Memphis, Hawaii, Country) and some dam confusing ones ( On Stage with In Person ??). I'm keen on the new official vinyl releases but disappointed they discontinued the last effort. I have the FTD of Today but I think the sound on this new release will be better. Any info on who mixed this? The cover of Live in Dallas LP was one of my favourite even if they used an old shot so it's a shame it won't get its own release.
Ciscoking (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
Just a side note why it came to the wrong date of the last four tracks: There is an audience recording of the Shreveport show from June 7. 1975 AS. The end (last 4 songs) is exactly the same as on the SB recording of June 6, 1975 Dallas, So people took that the end of the SB was taken from June 7. What happened was that many shows from this tour were recorded by fans and due to tape switch and mislabeling... the endings of certain shows were mixed up and tagged onto other shows. Houston June 5 AR also has a wrong ending. When you listen to the AR of June 7, 1975 AS you detect a slight cut after How Great Thou Art. After this the end of Dallas was tagged. The SB of Dallas is exactly what was released on EAP besides the known replacements. Tunzi has it all correct in Elvis Sessions 3.

I already own the FTD version of "Elvis Today", so no, I won't be purchasing this CD. I love how after coming to the end of FTD issued recordings or damn close to it, we have to under the SONY label, have to reissue to the general public, what we FTD collectors paid "an arm and a leg" for; and the "train" keeps rolling on!
Ciscoking (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
Dallas 1975 by Its Elvis Time fanclub...didn't include intros but included TROUBLE and Why Me Lord which werent from this show on EAP.
Jamie (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
Hello. Amongst it's other remits, the Legacy series is becoming a cheaper, less lavish alternative to FTD for those on a budget prepared to compromise on how complete their collections are. The On Stage/In Person and Memphis/Richmond releases are really good value, and Today/Dallas looks good too.
Dazman (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
Being a concert collector I'll definitely buy this again. Hopefully there will be less compression on this version for CD 2. With the release of the Dallas and Shreveport concerts in recent years, it's disappointing that the powers that be have still incorrectly dated last 4 tracks.
Mature: not a bad idea re the closing show in Memphis, but I'd still prefer this compilation and keep older material still available. Personally I'd have the Memphis show as part of a box set for all the shows from Elvis' hometown.
Wouldn't all of love to have Rogers and EJ's job !!
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 22, 2015report abuse
I already have the "Today" FTD, the "Christmas Today" bootleg, and the "Elvis Aron Presley" silver cd box set. Therefore, I won't be buying this new Legacy Edition set.

I don't know about you mature_elvis_fan75, but I have a hard time reading the text on those Legacy releases.

Disc 2 was released as a separate vinyl LP called "Elvis Live In Dallas, June 1975" by the Dutch fan club "It's Elvis Time" in 1987. If the concert has been remastered as good as "Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis" Legacy Edition, I would definitely consider buying.
mature_elvis_fan75 (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 21, 2015report abuse
Yes some tracks from the today ftd version but of course they leave off just enough to make you need the ftd version of today.
This should have been just the studio recordings cause i like the legacy releases they are normal size not like the oversized ftd's that are so easy to get damaged. If your going to put a concert on cd 2 then make it june 10,it makes more sence, but i guess it will show up on the overprices ftd label.
mature_elvis_fan75 (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 21, 2015report abuse
Why not put the june 10 show on cd 2? Does everything have to be a rehash? Its a very good show with him singing some songs from the toda album, with elvis releases its always this way!!!!
JerryNodak (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 21, 2015report abuse
I've got "Today" FTD. I've got The EAP silver box with concert still in excellent condition. I won't buy this simply for the undubbed versions of the original LP masters. Next!
Ciscoking (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 21, 2015report abuse
The last four tracks are Dallas, too
Jamie (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 21, 2015report abuse
Hello. The ersatz concert on the old 'Silver' boxset was compiled from soundboard recordings, and are in 'good bootleg' quality. I think it's imaginative to twin it with the Today LP - the 1980 boxset has become obsolete and so this new edition of Today keeps those performances available in Elvis's catalogue. Disc 1 looks really good - a very generous helping of germane bonus tracks. If there is a concern, it is that those fans who shelled on the expensive FTD version of Today may be displeased to see so much of that release find its way on to this far cheaper reissue. Sony BMG played the same card with the Memphis '74/Richmond '74 double CD, and it's a bit distasteful in my view.
TheMemphisFan (profilecontact) wrote on Jun 21, 2015report abuse
Finally an official announcement. Strange that there won't be at least one or two alternate takes included.
