Elvis Third In VH1 Poll

November 12, 2003 | People
David Beckham was today named the greatest pop culture icon, beating Hollywood stars, Madonna and Elvis. The soccer idol triumphed in a poll compiled from thousands of votes by music channel VH1 for a TV special. We guess some fans have something to complain again.

A two-and-a-half hour countdown of the top 100 is being screened by the station on Saturday at 8pm, presented by actress Anna Friel. The top 10 of the greatest pop culture icons of all time, as compiled by music channel VH1:

1. David Beckham
2. Madonna
3. Elvis
4. The Beatles
5. Princess Diana
6. The Simpsons
7. Freddie Mercury
8. ABBA
9. Robbie Williams
10. David Bowie

Hey Guys, don't worry about it. VH1 is not really a music channel, because they must have the dumbest people on earth working at that please. They actually think that David Beckham is a music star. This channel is nothing but a big fat joke. We all know who the the greatest pop culture icon of all time is. Just think even this generation who are discovering Elvis pass on, for many centuries to come Elvis will always be there, he will never ever ever be forgotten. I can not say that about other pop stars, I can guarentee you that in 20 or 40 years from now, no one will remember Robbie Williams, Michael Jackson,Madonna, Britney etc. Also for all of you at VH1, if it wasn't for Elvis, you guys would not be there. Long Forever Live The King!

VH1 and MTV have NEVER put Elvis at the top of ANY of their Polls. He only came third in the all-time male singer poll after Robbie Williams and Michael Jackson! The other interesting factor is that one can never find a way of voting in their polls. If they allowed voting online then I feel we would see a different result.

Let's not forget one positive aspect of the poll - Elvis beat the Beatles! I doubt that we would have seen that result a few years ago.

My thought exactly, Lex! :D And I cant help but jumping on the bait: This is not a poll about music stars. Its about icons to the pop culture. Last time I checked neither Diana, Beckham or Simpsons are/were musicians (even though Bart Simpson did release a single back in... Uhm... 1990 or thereabouts). Both Madonna and Beckham has a greater influence on *todays* pop culture than Elvis. In that sense the list seems fair enough. And I'm as much of an Elvis fan as any of you guys. But the real question is: Who cares! This list is just as unserious and funny as intended. Dont take it all so serious, guys. :D

This may be the dumbest outcome of one of the dumbest polls of all time
