October 13, 2004 | Other
The remaining $20,000 has been raised for the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium statue. The statue will either be unveiled the morning of October 15, 2004, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., or if CBS News will cover the story, Saturday, October 16, 2004.

The statue by Houston artist Eric Kaposta, formerly of Shreveport, is being timed to take its place in front of Municipal Auditorium for the 50th anniversary of Elvis' first career performance, Oct. 16, 1954, at the Louisiana Hayride.

Shreveport's Municipal Auditorium Downtown Development Authority committed $40,000 toward the $60,000 statue with the remaining funds being raised by the Elvis Angels fan club.

Updated October 14, 2004:

"The statue will arrive in Shreveport, Louisiana around 4:30 and will be lifted up on the base by a crane. Then the granite sides will be attached to the base. Elvis will be 7 1/2' tall on a 4' base. Awesome! We will unveil the statue at 8:30 am central standard time Friday, Oct. 15.

I hope one of the network stations cover the unvailing. They are so used to covering nonsense issues of lately, that it would be ashame if they didn't respect Elvis for this honor. We should all be making phone calls to see to it, that it gets covered.

Nice to see this news of the Shreveport Elvis staue here after I sent it to David at Elvis Australia:-) He wondered why the Fan Club Elvisangels had not sent it to them direct? Sometimes I'm just at a loss for words-but not for long:-) The statue is "Hot News of the Month" on a Press Release website
