Nice compilation!

This "cover song" theme was already "covered" by SONY in the U.S. over the past two years with the release of ELVIS UNCOVERED (2012) and ELVIS UNCOVERED, VOL. 2 (2013).

And yet they keep coming, why?
JerryNodak wrote on May 15, 2014
They keep coming because they sell. Corporations are in busy to make money.
JerryNodak wrote on May 15, 2014
Yes, the cover theme has been done. But Elvis recorded many cover songs. SONY will keep doing it as long as the cover comps sell well or they run out of cover tunes. SONY's in business to make money.

please stop buying them then and hopefully they will give up. I really don't believe that the general public/ non elvis fans will buy this so it must be the blind will buy anything elvis fan who still doesn't realise that they are doing nothing but harm his credibility by continually buying this kind of thing.

I think this is a fine compilation and I just may get it. At least not the usual songs.

Good track list for new elvis fans or as a gift :)

Please? I know a business is to make money, otherwise they're not in business, but this is getting ridiculous. The man hasn't been with us since August 1977 and his music, other than FTD, is treated like a hodge podge aka throw it out there and see what sticks to be glutted to the max.

You know who this will sell to? The people on this website and others like it. The general public has no interest in new Elvis releases anymore (or CDs in general) simply because there is nothing new to release, just a new idea to compile songs for. Sony knows they will turn a profit because of the 'must have everything ' Elvis fans out there, but that will dry up one day as well.

Hello, mixed feelings about this. I think the inclusion of original versions by various artists represents a good way of educating people about Elvis's skill as an interpreter of songs. But the tracklisting looks a little incoherent. eg, Promised Land (1975), followed by What'd I Say (iffy recording from 1963), followed by Early Morning Rain (1971 or 1973 version). Moreover, are the various artist cuts really going to be the originals? It's hard to imagine, for instance, The Beatles' rendition of Something being licenced for this release.

My problem is that a new Elvis fan will be overwhelmed by the astonishing number of various cd's available. We all know what is available and what is worth buying depending on our interests, but a new fan? There are original albums on cd (with and without extra tracks), legacy editions, various compilations like this one, cd's by random labels that use out of copywrite material, FTD's, imports etc. The number of Christmas albums alone is astonishing!! It's in general such a big mess! What I'd like to see is a series of cd's by RCA (Sony) based on the original albums, that include all his masters (studio and live), including a handful of compilations (live Elv1s No 1 Hits) and a good guide on the website on his recordings. These cd's should always be available to the general public and be labelled as 'original series' or something like that to differentiate from the various compilations like this one that are I think 'inevitable'! Then if someone wants to collect the Elvis recordings will know what to buy. But it will never happen I'm afraid...

What is interesting is that most songs on this compilation are from the 70's or the late 60's. Maybe 50's and early 60's music is outdated for the general public? Not a bad compilation in general but not for most of us who have all these songs and don't really need another compilation... PS It would make sense for 'What'd I Say' to be a live version from 1969, but then again it is released from Sony so you never know...

Jamie, correct me if i'm wrong, but all songs on this release will be sung by Elvis, no various artist cuts ! Always El.
Jamie wrote on May 17, 2014
Your right, Benny - sorry, I've been drinking a bit heavily lately.

Hi Marty, I like the idea of using 'original series' as a motif - it describes things like the Love Me Tender EP and Raised and Rock rather more accurately than FTD's 'classic album' banner.

Interesting release with a nice cover and tracklisting but I have to agree with Marty, the amount of releases is just far too many for the new fan.

Did The Jordanaires sing on "Funny How Time Slips Away ?, first time I heard that ! This is such a cool cd actually with brilliant cover and quality tracks, but nothing new for the fan collection. If Sony wanted to release another cover versions cd then I think they should have put all or as many as possible of the covers on a double cd with a couple of tasty rareities for us lot. Anyway nice idea but once again executed without much thought. I think all Elvis cds should be taken of the market for a few monthes then one heavily advertised very different Elvis cd released with the likes of "Wearin That Loved On Look, Power Of My Love, Clean Up Your Own Backyard plus a few new remixes along the lines of Rubberneckin ( NO Spankcox rubbish tho ) call it something like ELVIS FUNK !. Have one of the tracks used in an advertisment and on single and keep that formula going. Ah to dream ......

No Jordanaires on "Funny How Time Slips Away" (according to my sessions books).
RobIreland wrote on May 18, 2014
Well they didnt sing with him in 1970 or there after. Dumb ass mistake here !
AmyD wrote on May 19, 2014
Rob Ireland calm down and apologies for your 100% wrong - you're the 'dumb ass'. The Jordanaires most definitely did back Elvis in 1970 - indeed, their last recording session with him was September 22 that year.
AmyD wrote on May 19, 2014
Roy Walker did claim though that their last session was the one in June 1971 on the gospel songs, but September 22/23 1970 appears more likely.
AmyD wrote on May 19, 2014
Sorry just noticed the typo! Ray Walker obviously! Wasn't playing the old version of Catchphrase!
Andy_2 wrote on May 19, 2014
I wish it had been Roy Walker, that would have been great.....

To those who believe this will appeal to the General Public and pull in new fans - grow up! Just another thrown-together release that reminds me of the dark days of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Sony haven't got a clue!
