Elvis Presley: The Ultimate Performance

September 02, 2013 | Music

In another tie in with RCA / K-Tel Records the live compilation 'The Ultimate Performance' was released in the UK in 1981. This album featured live tracks from the albums 'Elvis In Person', 'Elvis Live On Stage At Madison Square Garden', and 'Aloha From Hawaii' edited together to make it sound like one complete concert. The album was TV advertised using clips from the 'Aloha' special. Once again it made the album charts, and it became a huge seller. The original album with it's beautiful painted front sleeve, was never released on CD. Until now!

Using the latest masters and mixed just like the original album, this is indeed Elvis' Ultimate Performance CD release! Housed in a beautiful 3-panel digipack, this classic K-TEL release is now available on silver pressed CD, for the very first time.

I always Loved the concept of this album, and before, and after this album was released, I made my own "Live" compliations, that were a bit better. However, I did enjoy this album, very, very much, back in the day, and I still have my "worn out" vinyl copy. Unfortunately, the mixes on this album, didn't always flow "cleanly and smoothly".. and this is because the songs were recorded from various concerts. However with all the techology in todays world, I bet RCA-Sony, could go back and remix this album, from the original tapes, and make it sound, much better. I for one, would welcome an "official release" of this album on CD. However, I would retitle the album. Calling it the "Ultimate performance" is a bit much. Whos to say, if it is the "Ultimate performance" ? Thats up to the listener to decide.
