Six lotteries have launched Elvis Presley(R) promotions since December, including New Jersey, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, New Hampshire, and New South Wales, Australia. At least eight other lottery jurisdictions are planning to launch Elvis games in 2001, making Elvis Presley the hottest first-year lottery license ever. MDI expects the pace to continue into 2002, according to Saferin, as Elvis fans around the world begin a year-long observance of the 25th anniversary of his death.
Elvis Presley Enterprises has granted MDI an exclusive license to create lottery promotions worldwide using the name, likeness and images of Elvis Presley throughout his professional career. Each lottery can customize its Elvis Instant game by its choice of Elvis images for ticket art, game play style, ticket price, combination of Elvis dream trips, merchandise, second chance drawings and special Internet promotions. MDI is currently developing additional Elvis game themes based on popular generic lottery instant games, including holiday tickets and ``Elvis in Las Vegas'' games.
