April 18, 2005 | People
Elvis Presley one of only three singers whose names shall be unveiled today as finalists for Discovery`s Greatest American TV program. The other two are Ray Charles and Michael Jackson.

They will unveil the 100 list today, at AOL, then, program by program ( there will be four such programs, starting today), bring the list down to 25, then to 5, through open debates, etc so that, in the last program, the greatest american is chosen, including allowing voting via AOL subscribers, or through other means, mail, etc.

I do hope that Elvis will beat Michael Jackson and Ray Charles, because of He is much greater than both of them

I also do hope that Elvis is selected as being greatest American. He is the most influential of all the three and on top of that, the best singer also.

Elvis IS the greatest American. Not sure about the other two they have chosen. Michael Jackson?? Proberly would be wise to wait till the verdict from his trial before putting his name along side Elvis's. Its sad to say that, no matter how talented Jackson is,if he is found guilty of those crimes everything he has achieved will be wiped away. Ray Charles was picked just because of the success of that film.

This is a joke. Elvis deserves to be at the top of this list, but both of the others shouldn't be anywhere near the top. You've got Muhammed Ali, JFK, and so many others that are much more worthy than Michael or Ray. It makes the whole thing a big joke and an embarassment, because of who they're considering alongside Elvis..

Unless i am,i think people are misreading this posting. Elvis and the other two are the only three `singers` in a list of 100.Not the final three.TCB

As an American myself, I certainly think Elvis is the Greatest American Singer. He was a very patriotic man, he respected the stars and stripes and what they mean. I do hope he is named the greatest singer, cause in my book no one holds a candle to him!!!

Michael Jackson isn't fit to have his name printed next to Elvis let alone rank as a great American with him, Elvis is the greatest never any doubt about it.

being of sound mind and body, i say, elvis is the greatest and should be number one. unlike michael jackson the "SELF PROCLAIMED" king of pop, elvis didn't give HIMSELF the title "king of rock n' roll". ray charles i really don't have a problem with. elvis did record one of his song's "what'd i say". but like one person has mentioned, i think because of the hit movie, is the reason why i think he's even on the list. all in all, elvis is in a league of his own, nobody can compare. also i think jackson's reputation is no longer.

The mere fact Elvis Presley is on the list may make a few million sit up and think. Especially TIME magazine editors:-) Here in Irelandtoo we know just how great Elvis was. Teenagers visiting music stores could be forgiven for thinking he is a NEW popstar considering all the Elvis material on view lately!
