Elvis On Times Square

March 31, 2008 | Other
A 36-foot tall Elvis Presley can now be seen in Times Square in New York. The Elvis photo on the billboard is by famous photographer George Kalinsky, who recently discovered many never-before-seen Elvis photos in his collection. The image is from a 1972 performance at Madison Square Garden where Kalinsky captured some photographs of Elvis.

An exhibit of these never before seen photos will open at Graceland in May.

Great that Graceland have put this poster up. It looks brilliant! Very cool. The cape and image of a 1972 Elvis looks fantastic. I wonder if all the photos from the collection made in black and white?Let's not knock Graceland for some of their choice of licensing. When they make something like this, they need praising. Well done Graceland - 36 foot tall Elvis is what we need! Thank you very much.

I would have prefered an earlier pic of the 50s, showing the raw Elvis !

Congratulations to you NYC! I had the great chance and honor to witness the June 10th pm (arena floor, secondth row center) and evening show (arena floor, 16th row center) and those were the real best ones for me to see! Thanks again to you Elvis Aaron Presley!

Great, great picture of prime Presley. Awesome. And PRESYER: What an amazing time to see Elvis live, if I could choose a concert to witness live, apart from Vegas '69 the MSG shows are my ultimate choice. Care to elaborate on what you saw that evening?

This is wonderful. I wish I could go to NYC this year & see it. This was done a few years ago with Sinatra & was quite a success. I am happy to see EPE take a positive step for a change!

To Viva : You are right! It was an amazing time to see him live! I had the great chance to see him on 14 shows in 9 cities (NorthEastern part of USA) and those two shows were from far the best ones for me to see. He was in a superb shape, fiery Elvis, great voice, moving quickly on stage, lights projected from different areas, fantastic sound in that Madison Square Gardens building, continuous roaring of the audience, one bodyguard who took away my "Super 8" film! There was absolutely nothing that could stop me attending those shows, even not being present at the marriage of one sister-in-law on that June 10th, 1972! I'm 62 years old and I still remember that most than wonderful time and experience! It was 1972, man!

The photo with Elvis holding up his cape has already been displayed inside Madison Square Garden, a few years ago!! My dad went there and took a photo of the Elvis photo, next to one of the Pope. Kalinsky doesn't remember?!!
