Elvis Not In Belgian Charts

February 05, 2005 | Music
Despite an unprecedented demand for the vinyl and CD box sets of the “Number One Hits”, the Belgium fan club Elvis Matters informed us that Elvis did not chart in the Belgian hitparade. There were more than enough boxes available, and they still take subscriptions, but the problem was situated elsewhere. Because the boxes weren’t available in every retail record store in Belgium, the composers of the Belgian hitparade “Ultratop” didn’t accept the sales figures, therefore keeping Elvis out of the charts. On top of that, Ultratop added a few ‘filters’, preventing one artist to score hit after hit in just a few weeks time.

Now i understand why he is not in the Belgian charts. This is even worse than the radio and Tv people in the UK, at least they respect sales numbers. In Belgium they banned Elvis totaly from the charts. Sad to see this happening in our country, Elvis always sold well over here.

Sorry to hear the news that Elvis has been banned from the charts in Belgium. Seems like Elvis is getting banned everywhere these days

What a sad profession to work for the music industrie! Is that just to keep the junk at the top that gives them fast money and disposable artist? Elvis is not just a chart entry - and I thank God for that! HE'S HERE TO STAY!

I'm sorry to say I really don't understand belgian rules or the way they relate to them : in the end what does matter if not the amount of sales when compelling a hit list according to... sales? Who cares about how many stores how many records in a row how many singles come out in how many weeks in a row etc ? The French they have a few funny ones about Belgium and Belgians but I guess that's not what it's all about :-) Is there any way things might be changed? I hope so! Belgians have always been true Elvis fans and it's a shame their support is not counted by their record industry.
