Elvis MP3 Spam

October 19, 2007 | Other
Experts at SophosLabs, Sophos's global network of virus and spam analysis centres, have discovered a pump-and-dump spam campaign that is attempting to manipulate share prices through MP3 music files.

An email message promising new MP3 files of Elvis, contains a disguised spam message. Although the files do not carry any viruses yet, don’t expect to hear an Elvis track either. The recording is of a female voice making a stock pitch:

'Hello, this is an investor alert Exit Only Incorporated has announced it is ready to launch its new text4cars.com Web site, already a huge success in Canada, we are expecting amazing results in the USA. Go read the news and sit on EXTO. That symbol again is EXTO. Thank you'

Reportedly the Elvis.mp3 file is reaching 10,000 inboxes every hour, but even Elvis can't make this one a hit!
