Elvis Lives On PBS

Did anyone who bought this DVD when it was originally offered at ShopElvis.com notice that in the Setup Menu dolby is spelled dobly. I wonder if this was fixed in the revised version. I am thinking if it was, we who have the original have a nice collectors item.

I've always been a bit skeptical about such "new" (post-humous) concerts. There's something creepy about them, but over time, I've realized I would see the "show" if I had a chance. I also like that it gives fans outside of the USA a chance to get a sense of what it would have been like to see him live, a sort of communal experience with fellow fans and to imagine him on stage again, be it Sydney, London, Copenhagen,Tokyo,Antwerp, Paris, Belfast, Bangkok..or Memphis. Plus, you get to see some of the original sidemen and background vocalists, etc. The bootleg footage of this show that I saw some time ago was an interesting curiousity. That PBS has picked it up tends to be a good thing. People have been *talking* fast and loose for years about who think *think* Elvis was, forgetting that they've had 30 years of impersonators and weak late-night comics using Elvis as a punch-line. Usuing real footage on such a show is great publicity, for PBS has developed a core audience of baby boomers (and others) who have been eating up their music programming for some five to six years, when the first all-star Doo Wop reunion really hit big. And before that and ever since, the "Black and White Night" of Roy Orbison (featuring James Burton, Bruce Springsteen, and others) has been perhaps their most popular fund-raiser, next to other Doo-Wop and nostalgic programming. They've played the Orbison show to death: some regular showings of this show could prove contagious as well. Whoever at EPE who pitched this to PBS deserves a rare round of applause, for PBS repeats this stuff very often and it's a perfect, targetted "niche" market of nostalgic music fans. Some may have forgotten how much they liked Elvis and perhaps get a CD or something. I just hope there is nothing about the show that is kitschy, campy or just weird. As much as I like the old band, it's weird to see them aging but Elvis frozen in time at age 38, playing along to often chintzier, inauthentic backing. But the Elvis footage alone is the best-selling point and one can have faith in the power of his performances, if not latter-day techical wizardry.

Lex and Greg: you have valid comments and we dig the idea to see this product on the market. Wow, the Dutch are really favoured in having seen a preview of it on TV out there. However, guys, let's not forget that we all want the real thing, unbiased or uncut (but edited by Jerry or Joe, maybe by Kathy?) of EP On Tour in those 12 cities in1972 Now that would be a smash if they do the editing correctly and without interviews and unnecessary stuff that those MGM award-winners did so badly. We only want ""all available footage"" of Elvis singing his hits on stage, nothing else OK and on DVD, marketed thru EPFClubs worldwide like they do with FTD releases; and obviously, we want then an FTD Box of 4 CDs to go with it. It'll sell 450,000 copies to hardcore fans, no doubt. By the way, do we alsways have to request & demand for more than 30 years to obtain what we want and what brings them an unprecedented profit ??! Your views are welcomed, hardcore and other elvis fans.

I dont think the dream of having a delux on tour set will actually happen, hope im wrong,as for this show,being there in person is one thing, but nothing that i care to buy and watch at home,to the ones who disagree, then enjoy ( big grin)
