Elvis! Grace And Grit

Today, the Petaluma Historical Library & Museum located in downtown Petaluma, California unveiled its new Elvis Presley photography exhibit. "ELVIS! Grace and Grit" features exclusive photos taken from the CBS Television Archives of Elvis in the late 1950s and early 1960s at the height of his fame.

The exhibit features 33 candid and on-the-air photographs from CBS, many of which came from Elvis' performances on The Ed Sullivan Show. Elvis performed on The Ed Sullivan Show three different times: September 9, 1956, October 28, 1956, and January 6, 1957. It was during the third appearance on Ed Sullivan when Elvis was censored and only shown on TV from the waist up.

Every Saturday during the exhibition run, the documentary, Elvis '56, which features early performance footage of Elvis from concerts as well as The Ed Sullivan Show will be shown at 1:30 p.m.

The museum will also display Elvis memorabilia on loan from fans.

Tonight, the museum is holding a special Museum Members Preview Party which will include a silent auction of rare Elvis special edition lithographs. At 7 p.m., the Petaluma Museum opens the party to the public for a showing of the famous Elvis 1968 Comeback Special.

Petaluma is located in the Bay Area north of San Francisco. Petaluma is the first stop for the exhibit's tour. "ELVIS! Grace and Grit" will be on display at the Museum through June 30.

What an awesome exhibit! I wish I could be there to see it. With many exhibits like this scheduled for around the country, I can't think of a better, educational tribute to a genuine American icon.
