looks like bud bundy out of the tv show "married with children" than Elvis!
Viva wrote on February 16, 2005
EPE didn't give the producers permission to view any Elvis footage or pictures. CBS said "That's not true. EPE were very kind and gave our casting directors a top quality video of Elvis on "Top of the Pops" to work from"
jean michel wrote on February 16, 2005
well said viva but the background, the mike and the costume do look alike though! lol oops , forgot to mention the guitar .

Man, Bundys are back and now in Elvis theme great! But WHY!? I think somebody SHOULD see the original picture of Elvis before shooting that show, it would help a bit. Why it's so difficult to make a good movie about Elvis, juzt look at "Great Balls Of Fire (Dennis Quaid), or latest hit Ray. Both are cool and well made, now show me good movie abut Elvis (don't tell me ELvis The Movie with Kurt Russel, when he sings "Burning Love" in white jumpsuit on Opening Night in 1969, hahaha).

Can someone please explain to me who the man on the left is supposed to be?? LOL
Viva wrote on February 17, 2005
Johnathan Rhys-Myers stars in... "Kurt Cobain - the early years". To be fair, I suppose we should wait and see how he acts it out first. Looks as though Larry Geller done his hair though (That is not a compliment).

By the way Mal: Bud Bundy-Brilliant!

Looks like it is on the same pathetic level of 'Elvis & Nixon'.. another stupid documentary where Elvis is portraited as a retarded junkie. This is gonna be one hell of a bomber!. The guy just looks... weird...too weird
Tigerman-GB wrote on February 17, 2005
Everything looks OK up to about a quarter of an inch below his chin.
RobIrish wrote on February 17, 2005
Above his chin is crap too. look its not elvis so why bother !. hey wheres that moebid section about what elvis song you would have played at your funeral ? , i cant find it ! anyway iv thought about it and after a little wine i would have " The Last Farewell"... if i lived in England tho would be more appropriate.
RobIrish wrote on February 17, 2005
i'll tell you why they cant make a decent film proraying Elvis, cause they dont know who he was , theyr so mixed up with "Huh huh ha" and "Thankyou very much" and shooting tvs and "dont step on my shoes man" and all the other tabloid created shit, they dont know Elvis like we do, so how can they make a decent protrayal of Elvis if they dont know who he was !?
elvisfreak wrote on February 17, 2005
This is a long long time from now because I am only 19 but I am already writing my book, "Through His Eyes - The Real Elvis". A true fan perspective of what the man was and is to us. (be out when I am 25) I hope I can base a playwright for a movie off the book that would become a major motion picture. And I would tell the TRUTH about the man none of this crap they put on television. He doesnt look anything like Elvis (hair, smile, expressions, voice etc) I cant believe this was the guy to get it over everyone else. He better be a fine darn actor because Elvis is the most important legend to play....
Gerard wrote on February 17, 2005
This makes me feel very sad. To have a film or whatever made you at least have to have a likeness. He looks nothing like elvis from (at least this) pic. to be fair to the guy, he prob will try his best. Oh why cant anything be done right!
GibbersGanfa wrote on February 17, 2005
It's always possible that this is just what Jon looks like without all some fancy Elvis hairdo work, yet still in costume, but then again, maybe not.

In my opinion Jonathan looks pretty descent as Elvis. Robert Patrick and Camryn Manheim look pretty damn good also. Plus Jonathan is a good actor so im sure the series will bve fine. This picture is actually something i made and i guess this website got a hold of it somehow. Im sending better pictures to this website and if they post them you will see what i mean. Later...

does not even come close to elvis, but what do you expect they hire an irish actor(no disrespect intended). They could at least have chosen an actor from the usa. I am sure there are actors out there who could do a good job. i have seen some stage shows that have been very good in their portrayal of elvis. if you can't get the look of the man right, then at least get the essence of the man, because that's his soul. get that right and you just might have a winner on your hands. As for kurt russell i thought he did a hell of a job, we know elvis did not wear the white jumpsuite on the opening night of '69 and also burning love was in '72, but once again the essence was there and i thought it was one of the better songs in the movie.

When portraying Elvis in a movie/tv-show you have to seriously consider what you want to emphazise. In my opinion you have to think about what was so special about Elvis. All right - he was extremely good-looking, but a lot of guys are. No, you have to find a person who has the kind of charisma, that The King had. Think about Priscilla's nickname for Elvis: Fire Eyes. I think a lot of Elvis' charisma and overwhelming charm came from his exceptional eyes. And those eyes can not always be portrayed correctle by a-look-alike-actor. But I think that Jonathan Rhys has eyes in quite the same league as Elvis, and being the great actor he is, I think he will be a great Elvis-interpreter. Furthermore the success of the show is dependent on a good script, and - in my opinion - the possibility of using the original Elvismusic.

I'm going to reserve judgement until I see the series. As long as the acting and script are good, I think that you can overcome the look-alike thing to some extent. I saw Jailhouse Rock the musical at the weekend, and although Mario Koumbo doesn't resemble Elvis that much, he did a really good and respectful job of playing Vince Everett in the style of Elvis, and I'm sure people would have left wanting to find out more about Elvis and his music. Elvis was unique and no one is ever going to get it exactly right, it's just an interpretaion.

I agree with you RobIrish. "They" don´t who was really Elvis Aron Presley, like we (Elvis fans) do.....
ElvisDayByDay wrote on February 17, 2005
With a series like this you have to decide to really look like Elvis or tell a story with someone who kinda looks the same. To be honest, noone comes close, so the second option would be best. I guess they do that.
hound216 wrote on February 17, 2005
Gee, I thought the TV special was about Elvis, not John Mellancamp...
RobIrish wrote on February 17, 2005
hahaha Hound 126 your sooo right !

oh 216 , sorry

this guy looks more like Morrissey from "the Smiths" than like Elvis Presley!! Someone told me Hollywood is totally FULL with off-duty-actors, so why they have taken this man?? Unbelievable. 1979 the great Kurt Russel played the king and now such a second choice kid? Oh lord, that´s not fair...:-(
dailyone wrote on February 18, 2005
