Dutch Fans Can Select Their Own Elvis Compilation

June 15, 2007 | Music
SONY/BMG Holland has asked the Dutch fans to help them create the ultimate, 50-track compilation album with the best songs of Elvis as chosen by the fans and the Dutch public.

Dutch fans are invited to go to www.elvispresley.nl to select their top 5 out of the 150 songs that were pre-selected by the Dutch It's Elvis Time fan club. The 50 songs that receive the most votes will end up on the Dutch Collection release that will hit the streets on August 16, 2007.

Fans will get the chance to have their name published in the CD booklet or win special Elvis prizes. Voting will start on June 21st through July 13th. The promotional campaign will be supported by national radio, TV and newspapers.

That sounds like a good idea. Maybe there will be a Best-of that stands out against all those other CDs with the same songs and track listings. I hope germany would do this too, so I could vote...

I would boycott this (if I were dutch). Dont be fooled by something that´s made up only to appeal to the vain side of voting, or the vain possibility to maybe have your name print in a cd booklet. It´ll be just another cash in compilation from BMG, with the same songs on it.....

Those amateurs! Tried to follow the link, but they forgot to upload the site...

The site will be open on june 21

Don't think this is a good idea. We have to choose from 150 selected songs ? mmmmm...just another Elvis compilation CD with his greatest hits.
Lex wrote on June 15, 2007
Still it's strange that you get an error page now. I know how easy it is to put up a temporary page until next week... I agree with the comments on the pre-selections, if you do something like this, do it right!

How would be your top 5, Lex ? lol.

Can't make it with this list at the moment... 1. I Just Can't Help Believin' 2. Baby, Let's Play House 3. So Glad You're Mine 4. Reconsider Baby 5. For Ol' Times Sake Of course I can replace 3 and 5 easily with a song from this list, but I just don't get this pre-selection... and it won't be MY top 5. I think it's a nice initiative but badly worked out. On this site you can vote for any song... so it isn't that hard to make :-).

I am from holland (tilburg) and in a way this is a nice deal with the dutch fans. On the other hand this is still yet another greatest hits compilation we don't need. We are getting so tired of this. For BMG it will be just a bankaccountfiller, and for the fans just another CD rack filler. Nothing more, nothing less. And making a choice from 150 song isn't enough by far. I miss some serious great songs here. Like for instance... i need your love tonight. So i make my vote next week, but a new g.h. of the king we don't need.

why dont the put love me, love the life i lead on there? and does anyone know what album thats on because i just heard the song for the very first time and i loved it.
Lex wrote on June 16, 2007
Mofoca, a little tip for questions like these: search the song in this site's songbase and follow the link "search CDs with" (or whatever it's called). My own personal 007 pointed me to the Dutch ECI (large book club) site, where you can find this list exactly as above. Well, I'd rather burn this site's Top 50 on a couple of CDs. If I'm lucky I can even burn more, and I can skip the songs I really don't like :-)

A message to Mofoca22 :"You could find the song "LOVE ME LOVE THE LIFE I LEAD" on the FOOL album (APL1-0283). I hope that Dutch fans will choose other songs than the same compilation over the years. I am sure they will made a ood selection.

Too litle choice of his later 70's work I think. And by the way, where's 'Song of the Shrimp'?
Ton Bruins wrote on June 16, 2007
When I see that list I was right about just another compilation CD...I will be just fine what I have now with the FTD label and the other 400 CD's I have from our man. Lex, For Ol' Times Sake is also one of my favorites, especially the alternate take 3 on "Rhythm and Country". ( Essential Elvis Vol.5)

Yep Ton, especially that version... it's on my mp3 player continiously.

And where Is Just A Little Bit?
Rob Wanders wrote on June 17, 2007
missing some essential songs (It's midnight, Pieces of my life, It's easy for you, For old time sake, How the web was woven, Long black limousine and more). Why make a pre-selection anyway? What's the reason for that? I'm Dutch so I probably will vote, don't know if I'm gonna buy it though.

Yes, yet another missed chance to let people know that there many more other great Elvis songs then the usual hits that are pre-selected in this list...This project can only be a real succes when there is no pre-selected list of songs.
