Details UK Single Reissues And 2 CD Compilation

June 19, 2007 | Music
Here is the press release on the upcoming UK single re-issue campaign which commemorates the 30th Anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death and is a follow-up for the huge success of 2005’s 18 No.1 Singles Campaign.

Press release:

Elvis set to re-write U.K. singles chart history with the re-release of the 18 Greatest Elvis Tracks Ever!

To commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death (16th August, 1977), Sony BMG Music Entertainment will celebrate his outstanding contribution to popular music with a triumphant return to the U.K. singles chart. Following the huge success of 2005’s 18 No.1 Singles Campaign, Sony BMG Music Entertainment will offer fans the opportunity to collect singles week by week to build the ‘Elvis The King’ singles boxset.

Each classic single will be released in a limited edition numbered CD and 10” vinyl format, beautifully packaged utilising the original U.S. and U.K. sleeve and label artwork. They will also be available as digital download singles for the first time.

2005 saw Elvis return to glory during a four month onslaught on the U.K. singles chart, creating 3 new No.1’s, and 14 Top 5 singles, however seminal tracks such as ‘Suspicious Minds’, ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ and ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ didn’t qualify for re-release as they failed to hit the No.1 spot first time around. 2007’s ‘Elvis The King’ 18 singles campaign will deliver the ‘ultimate’ collector’s dream; comprising of the most popular, loved and celebrated Elvis tracks sure to delight fans young and old.

“Incredibly, it is now 30 years since Elvis, the King Of Rock & Roll passed away. To mark this milestone we have created an amazing singles series that celebrates his unique legacy,” said Sony BMG Music Entertainment’s Phil Savill. “The No.1 Singles campaign in 2005 was a huge success but did not include many of Elvis’ greatest songs such as Suspicious Minds, In The Ghetto and Heartbreak Hotel.” “The Elvis The King campaign features 18 of the most treasured and famous tracks. Without a doubt, expect to see Elvis holding court again at the top of the charts, later this year.”

On the first day of the Elvis The King campaign (Monday 13th August, 2007), Sony BMG Music Entertainment will issue ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ will be accompanied with a numbered CD and 10” collectors’ box that will eventually house all 18 singles in the series.

Please note that due to U.K. chart regulations on packaging for singles, ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ and the limited edition collector’s box will not be eligible for the U.K. singles chart. However, to see the King back in the charts to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of his passing, on the actually day of the anniversary, Thursday 16th August Sony BMG Music Entertainment are releasing the second Elvis single ‘Suspicious Minds’ – which unbelievably, never made it to the No.1 spot first time around. It is almost unheard of for a single to be released on a Thursday and it is only possible because of the unique nature of the artist.

All CD singles will include the original A and B sides plus a third bonus track that will either be an alternative take, U.S. b-side or related track. The 10” vinyl singles will include the lead single on the A side, and the B side on side two along with the third bonus track. The digital download will include all three tracks (the majority of the bonus tracks are previously unavailable as downloads) plus the artwork.

Each single released in this historic campaign will be packaged as follows:

5” CD Single
Each CD will be released in ‘mini-vinyl’ replica card sleeves with an outer and inner bag. The outer bag will feature the original U.S. picture sleeve artwork, while the inner bag will replicate a generic U.K. RCA single from the time of the original U.K. release. Each of the 18 CD singles will be limited in copies and individually numbered.

The artwork for the CD disc will replicate the original 7” vinyl release including authentic vinyl label artwork. Rather than have the standard silver finish on the ‘playing’ side of the disc, each CD rear will have a black finish, again to replicate a miniaturised version and the look of the original vinyl release.

10” Vinyl Single
Each 10” vinyl release will be packaged in the original U.K. RCA generic bag. The 10” label will replicate the original U.K. 7” label artwork. Each of the eighteen 10” vinyl singles will be limited copies and individually numbered.

I know a lot of you don't care about things like this but i am already VERY excited, I can't put into words how i felt when Elvis last got to No.1 and if we could all pull together and eek a few more out for him then it would be an unbelievable feeling ! I'm sure i'm not the only one who has read the reports about the scouse boyband being tipped to hold the top 10 positions at one time when their singles are released and i would absolutely HATE this to happen, Let's do all we can to maintain and extend The King's chart legacy. I know we all have these songs a million times but surely for the sake of getting Elvis more and more records then we can all afford to eek out another few pounds a week to make it happen-Anyone agree ? TCB.

If you want a proper response from me then explain yourself, If not take your child like comments elsewhere (actually you are a child so i suppose that explains your response)TCB.

I'll be buying., In particular it would be great if Suspicious Minds made #1 with only 3 days sales. It would be nice if EVERY fan went out on the anniversary and bought Suspicious Minds, even if they were not planning on getting the others.

My feelings are obviously pretty clear, but for some reason Suspicious Minds never makes it. The last big push for Suspicious Minds got it to No.13 i believe and that was a weeks worth of sales ! At least there are some people out there,or at least 1,thinking the same as i do ! TCB.

ta2k- anyone agree? Yes I agree with Harvey Alexander. How can this be important in your life? There are so many other issues in life to be excited about than this stupid boxset and a number 1 for Elvis. Besides, a number 1 today doesn't mean the same thing as when Elvis was alive & selling 'real' records. The charts today are all bogus.

ta2K, I agree with what you say. I am looking forward to getting these and for more than one reason, I like the way that they have produced these with the original cover and I think that they look pretty cool. I also would like to see our boy get to the top of the charts once again and for the list of number 1's that he has got, increase. Unfortunately there are a few sour grapes out there that do not give a damn, but as far as I am concerned, I like them and there are a great number of fans that do. I do admit that I had trouble getting them last time due to a few reasons that I wont go into here, but I will wait eagerly for them to become available and I will tell all that may be interested to go and get them and put the king back at number one. And I do think that you have a life, Elvis is your life.

So because i'd rather Elvis was No.1 in a 'bogus' Chart rather than be No.37 in a 'bogus' Chart,i have no life ?! Your comments are lifeless-get a personality. TCB.
