According to postings on the FECC forum the second disc of the 2007 reissue of "That's The Way It Is", containing the original 1970 version and bonus tracks, is a mono release. The picture quality is not great either.

The extra "outtakes" are:

You Don't Have To Say You Love Me
Eating Sequence
Cattle Call + Baby Let's Play House + Don't
Farther Along
Oh Happy Day
I Just Can't Help Believin'
Walk A Mile In My Shoes
I've Lost You
Sweet Caroline
Little Sister
Stranger In The Crowd
After Show Party

So what gives? Did they just take the original DVD that came out in 1997, which I already have and am not too happy about due to its poor picture quality and mono sound, and just pasted it with a "special edition" tag? It seems I'm going to gain nothing if I decide to purchase this "special edition" (sic)! I guess I will save my money for something more worthwhile! Thanks for nothing Warner.

One song has to be added to this release: 'I feel that I've know you forever'..

Thanks Warner..mono sound in 2007. Even gone with the wind is released with 5.1 sound ! Warner can you imagine now that people will buy bootlegs ? We are NOT interested in bad picture & sound quality !

People if you dont know by now warner has no respect for Elvis so in return has no respect for his fans, and to think people still think on tour will have some big rerelease such as 5 dvd set! lol time to face reality, this is just another example of shotty releases, whether its ftd with its no booklet releases or dvd's being released as if dvd's were brand new instead of making them the best with all the advances in sound and picture on dvd's!

Well, at least I'll finally have the original TTWII on DVD. That's more than I've got now. Something is better than nothing. Actually, what we're getting is about what I expected.

How can people judge the quality when it has not been released yet? I'll wait to see for myself.

Tony, cause someone on the FECC has got a copy and has done a review of it, thats why.

Released: 2007/08/07?? I saw it yesterday, it has a 16-pages booklet too! :P It was very cheap, but I had no money :( I want this and "This Is Elvis"

Well with such abysmal sales of the Special Edition in the States (around 8000 units) it's highly unlikely Warners would spend more money on cleaning up the original.

emjel, the reason the sales were so low was cause the SE was put on prime time TV a day BEFORE the Official release, plus on the TV broadcast they had footage of the 4 unreleased songs which had been digitally remastered but for some strange reason these were not on the DVD.Absolutely terrible marketing ploy to have this on the TV a day before its in the shops. Also, i think its the only SE DVD i have seen which is actually SHORTER than the original film.

this dvd and the other warner dvd's are out already. i saw them at walmart this past tuesday. was going to buy them, but had already preordered them. it's a shame about ttwii reissue. i was hoping they would have remastered it, with better sound, picture.

That sounds very terrible or horrible!! The King is still an audiostar, the videopublications have a lousy standard!! I can not believe this, but we must also buy this product. OH MY GOD!!

no one really has the right to be upset with the orginal thats the way it is dvd on there. no right at all. why should they make it better than the special edition that would defeat the entire purpose of having redone it in the first place. im content with it. so what if the orginal is still in mono thats the way it was lol as it says at the end of the orginal movie thats the way it was in 1970. its orginal so quit complaining or someday theyll fix us fans by not releasing a damn thing ever again. and it will be all you complainers fault. its simple as this if you dont like it dont buy it. they aint here to please everyone there out to draw new fans as well. we are lucky to be getting anything if you want my honest opinion there aint many celberties that are as popular as elvis is 30 years after there death. let the re-re;leases keep coming and the re-releases of the dvds keep elvis in the public limelight. a lot of you people are old and will be dead in 20 years dont take this as disrespect they just dont care about old people shopping no more its a kids buying world now and there trying to draw younger people to him. everyone that was alive when elvis was alive are lucky they got to se ehime live people my age and younger did not get that opportunity so whatever comes out now we may or may not being seeing for the 1st time. no matter if its been released already though it dont matter i have 3 different releases of elvis golden records volume 1 and each time i bought it felt like christmas just to hear elvis the same happens when i bought a dvd to replace one that my niece scratched up it felt like christmas and i was seeing it for the 1st time. who cares about the sound you can do your own surround sound and stuff if you wanted to mono is dynamic truthfully

Well, I have the special edition of TTWII and it looks good and sounds great to me. I'm not going to re-buy it. I did buy 'Live a Little, Love a Little' and 'The Trouble with Girls' this evening. Each one has five photo cards in them (about 5x7 inches). I'm tempted to buy the ones I already have (Harum Scarum and others) just to get those photo cards. I haven't watched them yet. I have them on VHS so this is a step up for me...they HAVE to be better than my VHS copies. WalMart didn't have 'Girl Happy' or 'Tickle Me'...drat. The price on the dvds is $7.50 (US)...quite reasonable.

My wife's sister is the gal that gets married in the original TTWII. I just talked to her last week, and she's excited about her few moments of fame being captured on DVD. For that reason alone, I'm glad for the re-issue of the original film.

According to Rick Schmidlin, the guy who created the 2001 special edition, they remastered the whole of the ORIGINAL TTWII at the same time, so why a horrible sounding old fashioned MONO version is re-released is anybody's guess. Also, the song "Get back" is actually edited out on the extras!!!??? WHY?!
Mofoca22 wrote on August 04, 2007
tony dobb i really wouldnt go with what they say on this then. we will just have to wait and see when its released. either way i dont care if its mono or stereo just to have the orginal version on dvd finnally will satisfy me plus the special edition since my original special edition has been played too much lol. i wish theyw ould do elvis on tour orginal or special edition

Can anyone tell me why the versions of I've Lost You, I Just Can't Help Believin', Sweet Caroline and Walk a Mile in the outtakes are called never before seen but are the same as the ones from the 1970 version on the same disc - even the camera angles are the same (just in poorer quality)... pretty happy though - picked it up for $9.98 Australian but no book inside (or postcards in the movie ones).
