Cover Art Writing For The King

Here is the cover art for the upcoming Follow That Dream release "Writing For The King" by Ken Sharp. This book includes more than 140 interviews with songwriters like John Fogerty, Paul McCartney, Leiber & Stoller, Pomus & Shuman, Phil Spector, Tommy Durden, Red West, Mark James, Tony Joe White and publisher Freddy Bienstock. "Writing for the King" is a fascinating behind-the-scenes story of politics, money, inspiration and great trivia about Elvis and the songs he turned into classics. Included is a CD of previously unreleased RCA recordings of Elvis performing live in Las Vegas (1969 through 1972) plus a second CD with a selection of the original demos submitted to Elvis. The demo CD takes us from “Heartbreak Hotel” through classics like “Teddy Bear,” “Trouble,” “Burning Love” and “Way Down.” Don’t miss this 400-Page Book and 2 CDs! Out on December 1, 2006. its a bit strange that the demos dont match the elvis disc. i would have thought for instance elvis would sing burning love on disc one and disc two would be dennis lindes version it doesntmake sence to me in other words a total b***s up as usual and what a price mention the word elvis you here one of two words rare or expensive.this is well over priced you would think they would learn there lesson thats theway book is now being deletedprobably due to lack off sales it seems to me they are trying to get it all out before we all die . take your time i am only in my fourtys quality not quantity thats what counts.

Then I'm gonna make your day - I won't be buying it, not even though I'm a fan of Elvis' 70's concert recordings, which this release is also aimed at (trying to get those that are not interested in disc 2 - most fans - to buy this over-priced book/cd)

I was also a bit concerned about the "las vegas live" CD on a project about songwriters. But FTD has already been re-releasing themselves on various concept-CD and the classic album series. I'm glad they don't re-release any material on this one, but include pure unreleased material. Whatever FTD is releasing I'll buy it and I'm making sure not to miss any release by having a subscription. My intention is to have every CD and book ever released by the FTD label and it always lights my mind when I read messeges from persons who won't buy a certain release - thus making my own collection a little more exclusive. :-)

This is a concept experimented here, in the double French CD set "Elvis sings Mort Shuman and Doc Pomus. There are three demos sung by Mort (who had a great career here): "Viva Las Vegas", "His latest Flame", and "Suspicion".

Good point, Dan. And "Colonel," you make a good point about Christmas and all the good stuff that's coming out. I may have to wait some of these great releases out!

I would have prefered sessions outtakes too. But maybe there just aren't that many left and if there's some left I would rather have them on the classic series. It is obvious that Ernst will be criticized no matter what. Coming 07 they have to consider what to release when. After all the Vegas disc is full of unreleased recordings and for a man dead thirty years it's quite something they still have this kind of stuff for us fans.

I'd have preferred out-takes from original sessions matched to the demo songs- Live Vegas recordings don't quite match the theme of the book for me. This seems like an excuse to release another Greatest Hits "Live" type of album. Not too sure about buying this now.

Hmm...must say that it's a strange choice to include Elvis own versions via livecuts. I would love to have these unreleased versions on an other FTD but here i would prefer unreleased studio trax...

Definitely one i'll purchase when released. It will be an interesting read, we've never heard the writers story in this magnitude before. 400 pages and 2 CD's, what a treat for the end of 2006, thanks to FTD.

Excellent cover. I too don't recall ever seeing this shot of Elvis before. Definitely on my next purchasing list, together with His Hand In Mine. Well done FTD.

Nice color shot, I like it! Colonel, You could get this $60? And then pick up the certain to be superior official SONY/BMG/FTD Sun box set when released. Win, win! BTW how much would the two MRS sets cost $140?

Man, I really don't know what I should buy for christmas. The two Memphis Recording Service Vol.'s or this one....
