Closing Night 1970

May 20, 2006 | Music
A new import release by the Graceland Records label is the CD entitled "Closing Night" with a soundboard recording of Elvis' February 23, 1970 slosing show. The CD, from the label that previously released “Elvis’ Second Night" in 2005, comes with a 16 pages booklet.

The press release:

“Elvis was again in Las Vegas, and the result of the sensational comeback 6 months earlier was, that the shows sold out even faster than in August.” Stein Erik Skar “Concert years 1969-1977”

Closing Night (23rd February 1970) Soundboard.

This is by far an outstanding show. Elvis is performing longer than usual. This show is from 2 reels which have been put together for the first time on cd. Digitally re-mastered and restored to maximum listening pleasure. As you can expect from Graceland records, we offer the best quality possible.

Now for the first time ever, the complete soundboard recording of the February 23rd, 1970 closing show. It includes a 16 page full color booklet, with many photos of that season mainly from the same show. Refreshing lay-out in the style of the Vegas souvenirs.
Plus great stories about this season and necessary facts for listening it over and over again!

Highlights:

- For the first time, Elvis on stage at the piano, giving a forceful rendition of “Lawdy, Miss Clawdy” and playing a part of “Blueberry hill.”
- On electric guitar, playing “One Night” and “It’s Now Or Never”
- See see Rider is, for the last time, a non-opening song
- Singing the one-liner “Everybody Loves Somebody Sometimes.”

The first time released ? What about the CD " In dreams of yesterday ", the closing show from the 23rd of Feb. 1970, released a few years ago as soundboard ? Is this concert not complete ? Is the " Closing night " in better quality and complete ? I can´t believe that this CD is in better quality.

In Dreams Of Yesterday was from 1974!!!

Parts from this show were on the bootleg "True Love Travels On A Gravel Road" from the Laurel label.

Forget to tell that the first 12 songs are from the closing show on "True Love Travels On A Gravel Road" and that the other 7 songs are from the opening show Jan. 26, 1970. With a Live version from the song "True Love Travels On A Gravel Road", the first Live version of "Polk Salad Annie", and first Live versions of "Kentucky Rain" and "Sweet Caroline". The sound quality is below par.

This sounds really interesting. gotta hear that

Some of the show is on Electrifying as well, but the sound is considerably better on that. I am assuming that part of the opening show has surfaced on a lower generation tape as well now as the live True Love Travels is far better on the Legendary performer CD (can't remember which one though!)

Besides the twelve songs on "True Love Travels On A Gravel Road", there was more from this show on the Bilko "Electrifying" CD. (including the Lawdy Miss Clawdy/Blueberry Hill/One Night/it's Now Or Never highlights mentioned above) It'll be good to have them all together in good quality.

This is the kind of show I wish FTD could release! We need a good complete Feb 1970. I always thought this was Elvis' best Vegas season mainly because that silly 1969 monologue was gone from the act and he sang with greater force (i.e Let It Be Me)

We've had a great feb70 release on ftd already ;-)

Can someone tell me, if the soundquality is better/equal/worse than the True love travels on a gravel road cd?

shaneleebrown and all other fans: This concert has been released under the name In dreams of yesterday ( not the one from Memory records with the concert from 1974 ), live at the International Feb. 23rd 1970, closing show Vol. II. The songlist is from All shook up to It´s now or never and was wrong titled on the black cd surface as Vol. I. As a bonus on this cd you can hear the Rubberneckin´ and Guitar man sessions. Is Can´t help fallin´ in love on the new relaese ?

Yes! Finally somebody did put it together. This closing show has got to be a winner!January - february season is so wild and powerful. Gladyslove, Opening part on "the true love travels" cd, was always better sounding than closing part. (I hope they improved this one). Live At The International Volume 2 - In Dreams Of Yesterday (26 Jan 1970 opening) With US mail takes 1-12. Label:Tupelo Sound:Average! In Dreams of Yesterday(28 June 1974) Label: Memory records Sound:Soundboard.
