Several Christmas CDs were announced. Legacy will release their version of Elvis' Christmas Album, which has little to do with the original. Further more two budget labels announced Songs For Christmas and Christmas Gift.

I like it ! The more the better. Also believe that Elvis should have followed advise of Col. Parker to make a Christmas
TV Special....that would have sold EACH year (for ages to come). Badly negotiated deal I feel with NBC ... where all
parties lose out. No winners here. Too bad.

Hello, has this been verified? The Legacy Christmas CD has the same tracks at the Classic Christmas release due out in October. It would be unlike the Legacy series to omit the Peace in the Valley EP songs...

Does anyone know yet what the second "Blue Christmas" is? I suspect it'll be one of the sitdown versions from the '68 Special.

Ernst,lol,he is just a company man,why does ftd rerelease stuff,it will never change,silly compilations,there is always holiday cd's of elvis at the stores,they didnt need to add another one.

At the 35th anniversary in Memphis, Ernst addressed the topic of releases such as this and the negative comments from they attrackt from fans. He pointed out that the idea behind such releases is to reacht potential new fans who are unfamiliar with Elvis's extensive catalog and might find the upteenth greatest hits or Christmas collection a starting point for a discovery of the catalog.

the budget releases has the same covers as the versions that was released few years ago.And it looks so cheap. The leagcy needs to be a differnt cover.'70's songs on a 50's classic album.Yes classic

You are right Benny , you did not say worry. I made that assumption because with so many on this site, that is all they care about, sales, gold record awards, as long as Elvis is #1 in very poll, etc. nothing else matters. They can release 1000 more titles like this and if each one sells 100 copies, well Elvis again has a lot of new sales as opposed to intergrity in the releases. Thats how I see releases like this.

Did I write I WORRY about sales ? I don't think so, just made a determination, that's all. After all, sales figures reflect the popularity of an artist if I'm not mistaken. Always El.

I'd rather have a a catalog of work that makes sense than worrying about sales. Who cares about the best selling artist stat anymore? How about a body of work that means something to the consumer instead of this glut of releases. Anyway, sales stats only mattered to me when you could go into a store , buy a record and it resulted in chart position. Today's figures with soundscans, downloads are all foreign to me. These releases result in nothing more than uselessness.

Oh dear, what a shambles Elvis' album catalogue has turned out to be. Sony should stop immediately this blatant over-exposure of his musical output and take a leaf from the pages of the Beatles/Dylan/Springsteen etc catalogues.

17 tracks, including the 8 from the original Christmas Album does not strike me as too bad! OK, 4 tracks from "The Wonderful World of Xmas" are missing, & it irks me slightly it is not 'complete' (On a Snowy Christmas Night, It Won't Seem Like Xmas, If I Get Home on Original Xmas Day & Silver Bells to be exact!) Yes I know from the historical point of view it perhaps would be nice just to have the Xmas Album with the original 12 tracks, but this Legacy CD drops the "Peace in the Valley" tracks & concentrates on his better Christmas tracks, thus providing a more rounded & better value for money CD. (And the original Xmas Album on CD is still out there if you want to buy it!) Also the Legacy label is on sale to the general public, not just us hard-core collectors!

Steve V, it saddens me too. They seem to think it is necessary to have something new every time, while they are not watering down the legacy, it is melting away, no vaporizing.

Those artists have respect,elvis does not,also elvis fans will buy anything,its sad when you have to buy a overpriced ftd to get original album style releases,not too mention having to order them,pay high shipping.

Oh my goodness. There is no hope for the Elvis catalog anymore. I was just reading how Sinatra's LP catalog is still available on CD (as is the Beatles). What went wrong here?
