Christmas At Graceland

November 11, 2004 | Other
As tradition dictates, Christmas at Graceland officially begins the Friday evening after Thanksgiving. At approximately 5:45 PM on Friday, November 26th, in a ceremony in Graceland Plaza, EPE officials and the Jennings Osborne family will "throw the switch" on Elvis Presley's wonderful traditional Graceland Mansion front-lawn holiday displays and an Osborne-donated lighting display in Graceland Plaza across the street. Adding to this great evening of family fun will be an appearance by Santa Claus and Bamboo, the Panda mascot from The Memphis Zoo. Elvis fans, media and the public at large are invited.

This year, new additions are being made to the plaza lighting display first donated by the Osbornes in 1999. Many parts of an Osborne lighting exhibition previously located in the mansion's back yard are being relocated to Graceland Plaza to make that area more spectacular than ever and enable more people to experience those former backyard display components at night. All holiday lighting and decorations will remain in place through The Elvis Presley Birthday Celebration in January. The lights will be on every night through January 9th.

Graceland after Thanksgiving through his birthday is absolutely the most beautiful place I've ever seen. It's like an oil painting, all the different colors of lights in front of the mansion and the blue lights running along the driveway. The angels in the back of the mansion are stunning and actually overwhelming because you don't expect such an awesome sight. If you have not gone to Graceland at this time, do make an effort for his Birthday Bash especially, because it is a wonderful, wonderful time of celebration.
