Bringing Fans Together

November 24, 2002 | Other
To celebrate Elvis’ 68 birthday the Turkish Elvis Presley Fan Club ‘Elvis Is In Istanbul Now’ organizes a special event. A birthday needs a present and of course a present for a King can't be a usual one. Elvis song "If I can Dream" gave the right idea.

Here is the release from the Tukish fan club:
Elvis has already told us what he wanted in 1968. he wanted "peace" that strong winds of promise that will blow away all the doubt and fear. "If I Can Dream" of a warmer sun where hope keeps shining on everyone.

So that's how the idea to celebrate Elvis' next birthday party with the Greek fans came out. We are two nations so close to each other in the means of culture and geography but also so distant politically. It is always easier to hate someone you never know. So we thought that the best present to please Elvis would be a step forward by us along the ideals inspired by him. This birthday party will be a great opportunity to introduce two countries' Elvis fans to each other and establish a friendship.

We declared our project to the “Elvis Forever Fan Club" in Greece. And after all the letters and telephone conversations made with the Elvis Forever Fan Club administrators Anna & Evaggelos Proios we happily saw that they are sharing the same ideals as excitedly as we are.

We already invited all Greek fans to our party in Ýstanbul in our last letter and received a positive answer by the telephone conversation on the November 22. Mr. Proios told us that he started announcing the invitation to their members and list of the guest will be clear next week. Also he has surprise for us that a Greek singer who had an appearance in a Columbia Records album released in 1985 "A Tribute To Elvis Presley" wishes to take stage in our party.
