Bill Clinton's Elvis Collection Displayed

A third preview of the Clinton presidential collection will showcase collectors’ books, gifts from all 50 states and a sample of Elvis Presley memorabilia. It will open in the Cox Creative Center on November 24 2003.

Called "America Presents: A Collection of Gifts and Books to the Clinton Presidency," the future exhibit will be the final preview before the William J. Clinton Presidential Center opens its doors in the fall of 2004. Despite all of the work ahead, the public relations executive, said he couldn’t resist a little more marketing.

This preview exhibits offer a rare opportunity for the public to see pieces of history that have been amassed during the Clinton years. The "America Presents" exhibit will feature a variety of crafts and folk art, as well as several pieces from Clinton’s Elvis collection. "You know, President Clinton’s Secret Service code name was Elvis," Rutherford said. The former president’s Elvis collection tops several hundred pieces — gifts from friends and other folks who heard Clinton was a big fan of the Memphis Flash. "I have some great pictures, including the famous one of Elvis on the train from Tupelo to Memphis," Clinton told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazettein November 2001. "I also have a scarf he autographed at a 1971 concert."
