I have no difficulties following him, even with english as my second language. His books are however filled with facts. There can be a whole page of details regarding the contracts of different tours. I guess you can't have everything. If you want to include all the facts you can't write the biography like a novel. Guralnick knows a lot about american music, which gives a broader insight on Elvis music. In his books however, the focus is on the person Elvis. Actually, and this will certainly upset some of you, the book that I most often have a look in is "A life in music" by you know who.

I knew I could depend on you, Harvey, for a reply. You may be very intelligent but you are predictable! I am not the only person who has commented that Guralnick is often hard to follow. People who are more in your caliber of intelligence, not mine. Yes, there will always be rose colored glasses & there will always be those who just cannot accept another point of view a/k/a difference of opinion. Authors are like music artists - we all cannot agree but there is room for all of them.

The Guralnick books are the 2 best book ever written about Elvis. I read them twice also but only because I thought they were that good!

Ruthie, I feel sorry for you if you can't follow Guralnick's writings and feel you have to question his credentials. The old rose coloured glasses sydrome strikes again. Guralnick is easily the best writer to ever document Elvis' story. But those who shade themselves from the sad truth of the final years will always fail to agree with his prose.

You guys are going to have a field day with me on this one but - Guralnick ? I have read them all & I had to read his books twice. His writing is choppy & hard to follow yet he is supposed to be a good writer, according to Schilling. Now, Schilling, I can follow. He doesn't try to impress people with his vocabularly like Guralnick does. Of course, I have always felt that Guralnick doesn't know the meaning of fan or loyalty. He claims to be a fan & loyal to Elvis. I am so glad I am not famous & he can't claim to be my fan & write about me.
